At least Ben is getting Cayden Daughtry on campus.

ESPN has him as a 5 star. Rivals and most everyone else have him as a 4 star.

It'll be very interesting to see how this recruitment goes. He wouldn't visit if he didn't think Iowa had a lot to offer.
The X factor here is some deep pockets blue blood offering him some obscene amount of money he can't say no to.
My hope is that he learns from Stirtz and does the work at the college level and then makes big money in the NBA. (Of course, Iowa will still pay him $)

5* Brayden Burries was paid $1M by Arizona last year as a freshman, if that is the going rate, I think he'll end up at Miami or Kentucky.

Ben's a good salesman. Hopefully his pitch works.

Was thinking about the recruiting grind coaches go through. Seeing the huge turnout of asst. coaches at the Nike EYBL league, do you wonder if they ever grumble about watching these kids, knowing many will get paid more than they get paid? It has to be frustrating.

I figured he might be a Michigan lean so it can't hurt. It will probably depend on who he is replaced with.
Michigan went ahead and removed the interim tag from Mike Boynton. He's officially the HC now. He was on Mays staff and has previous HC experience.

See where KY just offered Daughtry
Of course! Even Fran was great at evaluating talent and getting Iowa into the top 4 of recruits final selection. That was before NIL!

Now, we will see with the BM era, if we can actually land some of these recruits. I'm very hopeful that we can!

It will always be tough to beat out the blue bloods with deep pockets (Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, etc.) for some of these recruits given how much money they can throw at them. That said, there are only so many spots on a roster so Iowa can always sell playing time in the B1G!

Point Guard Poll. Who do you think we get?

Daughtry

Davis

Jamison

Somebody else

Edit: Sorry poll didn't work. I'm leaning towards Davis.

Saw an article in Chicago Sun-Times about their top 2027 prep bb recruits ....

All 5 of the top 100 players have gone to out of state prep schools, leaving state of Illinois with zero top 100 players.

Davion. Thompson,is top 20 and expected to re-classify to 2026, commuted to Cal at Arkansas.

Devin Cleveland is top 30 guard with Arkansas among others in hunt.

Jax Davis is concensus # 50 with Iowa, mich, msu in pursuit.

Next kid is ,name escapes, 6'6" wing, top 60, committed to illini

Finally, another bigger player, williams, top 80, uncommitted.

Prep schools are almost automatic for top players these days.
Sign of times I guess.

Makes sense. Their payday got moved up by four years and in a greater multitude. College is no longer the next step for getting paid, it can be set up to never have to work again if you manage it all right and you don’t even have to be an elite prospect.

I hope Ben can make it happen. Not going to hold my breath though. Any of the three PG's listed would be a game change.

Edit: College basketball revolves around great point guard play. Can't think about the last time we were in on three top point guards.
We’ve been in on plenty of top players including point guards in the not too distant past. The problem has always been closing. Hopefully that changes under this regime

We still have scars don't we?

I certainly won't forget the Tyler Ulis saga. For months our local media said we led in his recruitment. Then Kentucky comes in and he commits to them. After the fact, we find out that Fran and company finished third in the running. He would have gone to MSU if Kentucky had not offered.

That is why it is hard to get too excited until he is on the court wearing black and gold. Seems like there is more excitement under Ben and his assistants. So far they have brought in some good looking young talent.

Correct. That’s why recruiting is a zero sum game. If they don’t land one of their primary PG targets I’ll be concerned. But some fans would glaze it as “it’s just an honor to be considered, eventually, he will land one” lol. Fran never did.
