I had the chance to go to a couple practices this spring. Moulton seems to be "the guy" going into the season based on past performance and dependability. In talking to an assistant coach, they clearly love what the young guy brings to the table. Seems to be the more dynamic player of the two.McNeill played last year as a true freshman. Any chance he can pass Moulton as the season goes? He seems more dynamic.
The question is, will he be willing to wait? Lots of carries ahead of him on the depth chart.I had the chance to go to a couple practices this spring. 4 viable candidates to get on the field and get touches. In this day and age, it's hard to imagine all 4 remain happy/content enough to stay. Hope they do though. The question is, will he be willing to wait? Lots of carries ahead of him on the depth chart.
Hopefully that doesn't happen, obviously, but at least we know McNeil and Xavier Williams have gotten game action and seem capable of stepping up.There have been years when we've gone almost the entire season playing #3 and #4 and beyond because of injuries.
Kid had 169 yards rushing on the season and people want to put him in a starting position.......McNeill played last year as a true freshman. Any chance he can pass Moulton as the season goes? He seems more dynamic.
Add in Phillips who ran for almost 2000 yds last season......Hopefully that doesn't happen, obviously, but at least we know McNeil and Xavier Williams have gotten game action and seem capable of stepping up.
Yes I know. I was responding to a post about injuries and having to rely on the 3rd and 4th RBs which are Williams and McNeil.Add in Phillips who ran for almost 2000 yds last season......
I personally think Phillips will be the best back for us next year. He appears to be a great one-cut back.Add in Phillips who ran for almost 2000 yds last season......
running back has got to be the deepest position on the whole team, by far. If I am wrong, somebody tell me.I personally think Phillips will be the best back for us next year. He appears to be a great one-cut back.
Phillips reached nearly 2K because he has exhibited very good contact balance. Those yards after contact and broken tackles sets him apart from Moultan IMO.I personally think Phillips will be the best back for us next year. He appears to be a great one-cut back.
That's what they used to say about KJ, although they are completely different physically. Still a guy who's 5'7 -5'8" you'd think would be harder to get to his legs then a guy whose 6'2" and runs pretty upright like Johnson did....Phillips reached nearly 2K because he has exhibited very good contact balance. One could say Iowa is deep at RB, TE, OL, DE, DB, LB, and even WRrunning back has got to be the deepest position on the whole team, by far. If I am wrong, somebody tell me.
any one of those four guys (Moulton, Phillips, McNeil, and Williams) could start for us and probably do a good job, especially if the OL is as good as we think/hope it will be.
but both points are well taken: that we have so much depth that some of them will almost certainly transfer; and also that we tend to have our share of injuries, so the No.3 or No.4 guy becoming the main back at some point this season is not out of the question. will just have to see how the season unfolds. I am sort of intrigued by Phillips and want to see what he can do, but I think Moulton is the heir apparent and it is his job to lose, basically.
Phillips just might have a Mikhei Sargent senior year, where he was quite effective, IIRC.
McNeill shows great feet and hips to be maybe a more elusive runner but at the same time Moulton has proven power and durability.McNeill played last year as a true freshman. Any chance he can pass Moulton as the season goes? He seems more dynamic.
There were 3 times Moulton was 1 v 1 on the 3rd level, and was tackled when he attempted to cut it back inside.it's a tough assignment matching up to kaleb's spectacular long distance jogging TDs but after rewatching some games over the last few months i have to say moulton is really good and better than most people (including me) think while mcneil did nothing more than what a decent freshman should. at this point no competition between them imo. that said excited to see if phillips brings some electricity to the table
McNeil just appears to have a separate gear & “wiggle” vs the other running backs on the roster.Kid had 169 yards rushing on the season and people want to put him in a starting position.......
You have no idea what you’re talking about.I look for Phillips to be the short yardage option to replace the Gronowski Plowski. He got over 2,000 yards against LBers and DB's much smaller, that will reduce is broken tackles numbers.
If you think he'll get 2,000 yards in the BIG then you're full of ****! I wonder who doesn't know what he's talking about. You have no idea what you’re talking about.
“much smaller LBs and DBs” is demonstrably false and laughable.
I never said Phillips would rush for 2,000 yards at Iowa. No one has said that grandpa. No one has said that, including me. Take a nap.If you think he'll get 2,000 yards in the BIG then you're full of ****! I wonder who doesn't know what he's talking about.
You claimed that Phillips competed against “much smaller” defenders last year. You are wrong you focking bonehead. If you think he'll get 2,000 yards in the BIG then you're full of ****! I wonder who doesn't know what he's talking about.
Direct me to a post where I or anyone else predicted that Phillips would rush for 2,000 yards in the Big10. If you can’t then STFU.If you think he'll get 2,000 yards in the BIG then you're full of ****! I wonder who doesn't know what he's talking about.
Wow, I must have struck a nerve. Three posts to respond. Grow up punk, you'll get old someday, especially since you spend your time in Mom and Dad's basementDirect me to a post where I or anyone else predicted that Phillips would rush for 2,000 yards in the Big10. If you can’t then STFU.
IIRC, the Hawks started four different RBs the first four games of the season because of injuries and performance--Moulton, Washington, Williams, and Patterson--plus needed to play McNeil (who missed time with injury later in the year). Doll also was hurt. Fortunately, it wasn't like 2004 where the injuries were season-ending.There have been years when we've gone almost the entire season playing #3 and #4 and beyond because of injuries.
Of course not because he won't get the carries he did at his last school. I have no idea what he'll do, but he may very well be in the mix. A good problem to have right now for Lester....If you think he'll get 2,000 yards in the BIG then you're full of ****! I wonder who doesn't know what he's talking about.
He reminds me so much of a forgotten #25....McNeil just appears to have a separate gear & “wiggle” vs the other running backs on the roster.
You’re feeble and easily confused so I did you a favor and separated the posts for easier consumption …..kind of like how they spoon feed you (with a “good boy” pat on top of your head if you don’t spill any of the puréed veggies on your oversized bib). Now go change your diaper.Wow, I must have struck a nerve. Three posts to respond. Grow up punk, you'll get old someday, especially since you spend your time in Mom and Dad's basement
For me, Moulton still has a some proving to do. It looks like he put on some muscle so that’s good because his biggest issue was staying on his feet after contact. Breakaway speed is nice, but I’d rather have a guy who can get consistent 4 to 10 yard runs.Moulton is the for sure starter for the season outside of an injury or a huge step back. McNeil is at best, third string, but has a lot of potential of moving up thanks to his athleticism. He had some flashes last year and I think he'll continue to improve the more chances he gets. Hope to see he gets some reps in the first three games if we run up the score.
I would agree with that, it always seemed he was never able to get to that second level consistently without getting tripped up. He's only a Jr this year, so if I don't see improvement in that respect I'd be open to someone else claiming the #1 spot. For me, Moulton still has a some proving to do. This will be my last post to you because ignore is the only way to deal with losers like you. Still walk 1-2 miles a day, enjoy traveling the world, spending time with my granddaughters and drive 9 hours to watch the Hawks. I was taught to respect my elders, you haven't been taught much of anything. Crawl back in your hole, you miserable excuse for a human being. So who "proved" that they should be getting the carries over him? At this point folks are speculating that they THINK someone else would do better. Evidently at this point the coaches (and many of the players based off interviews) feel differently. For me, Moulton still has a some proving to do. Behind the best OL in the country. I’m not saying he’s bad, I think he’s an above average RB I just don’t think he’s earned RB1 without competing for it.He averaged 5.2 yards a carry.
Yeah well blowhards lwho pretend to be above others by frequently posting personal info like world travel and how much money they made blah blah blah are usually complete phonies - like you.
