I've brought up in the past that the NCAA should mimic FIFA and other Pro leagues to provide compensation for teams who develop players and lose them to more lucrative deals elsewhere. Low Majors who lose players to High Majors should be compensated something from the new team. It takes away the viewpoint that the previous team "loses" in the unlimited transfer game and gives teams a financial incentive/bonus to develop players to move up.
The French LNB is now asking the NCAA to agree to a system like this.
"Every year players developed in the LNB continue their progression in the NCAA. The LNB wants to better support the players and the college coaches in this process.
Yet this talent drain comes at a cost - our clubs invest heavily in developing these players then receive nothing in return so they see this massive exodus as a threat.
The Ambition is to build a structured partnership model with the NCAA - Development pathways, tracking of French players, and a Win-Win economic framework for both ecosystems.
This Partnership could deliver:
- Financial Returns for LNB Clubs
- Staff Exchanges between Organizations
- Competitions between NCAA and LNB clubs
- Deeper ties between American Universities and French clubs
