i haven't seen much written here about the pending save college sports legislation. it would standardize nil, limit transfers, allow media right pooling, block super leagues, and give the ncaa antitrust protection.

the b10 and sec have been lobbying congress to do something, but this seems a bit too far given their near monopoly positions. naturally, the acc and b12 support reining in all these elements.

so what's N fan feel about all this? unnecessary congressional action? parts make sense? all in?

Congress can't enforce it. They would have to pay for an enforcement body to fast track litigation coming straight from the federal justice system. It is probably best to have conferences build a collective governing body which will be dominated by the top 20 teams and every rule will benefit them. Top 20 teams will build a governing body ruled over by ADs...if a team does something they don't like, they will just boycott them or keep them out of the playoff. Remember that payouts come out of the conferences and a simple vote from member teams can redistribute your payoffs if you break the "rules".

This is almost certainly why there will be one super-conference, multiple conferences almost surely cannot come to a conclusion on a set of rules, especially when one conference has the upper hand. SEC is already discussing doing their own thing. Either a super conference will form or two major conferences..with different rules...they play within the conference and the champion could be put against the winner of the other conference for a big pay day. I would actually prefer to get rid of the non-conference schedule. Add the big 12 and ACC to the big 10 and SEC...have those conferences play a pure conference schedule and then conference champions play at the end of the year...you could then have a bowl season of cross-matchups.

Don't know much about it, but something has to be done. College sports is all but destroyed at this point. Not sure they will be able to put the toothpaste back in the tube.

the proposed act seems too detailed. if in congress, i'd lobby for giving the ncaa an antitrust exemption. then tell the schools to work it out. if they can't, expect further, more draconian congressional action to be forthcoming.

under the proposed act the ncaa and college sports commission are granted limited antitrust exemptions. this allows the governing bodies to enforce without fear of lawsuits. so why not do that first without all the other "instructions" and see how it goes?

I like the attempt to reign in the power 2. I also like how it limits transfers to one time. And it limits the pool to the 20.5 + whatever endorsments from companies you can get. Ideally removing collectives entirely, but they might find a way around it.

BIG/SEC don't like it I think it could actually benefit the nearly 100 other schools who aren't in the BIG/SEC. I have no interest in watching Clemson/FSU/Miami leave the ACC. In fact I'd like to see the pac teams go back to the pac.

I'd prefer everyone pools because even if each BIG/SEC school makes 10 million less it would still be significantly more than the other conferences. While providing a bit of stability to the rest. (We don't even know if they would make much less. But the BIG/SEC swear they've done the research and they're not biased at all)

But because it might actually be useful and could provide stability I expect it to not reach the 60 vote threshold.

further to this discussion, i posted this on another board regarding a 40-team super league that might evolve if all else fails. it would not according to some be a simple combination of the sec and b10.

if a 40-team league it would be ugly. here's how it might look using national titles, revenue, apr, and such as metrics - sporting news. some weird schools. i would say land grants like k-state and iowa state would have no shot. notice this metrics based list excludes wvu, inidana, nebraska, ucla, and others. be careful what you ask for.

1 Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Michigan, Georgia, LSU, OU, Wisconsin, FSU, Florida
2 Notre Dame, Washington, Penn State, Auburn, Utah, Oregon, Texas, aTm, Ole Miss, Iowa
3 Boise State, USC, Missouri, Cincinnati, Air Force, Minnesota, Michigan State, South Carolina, Miami, UVA
4 Tennessee, Northwestern, Louisville, Mississippi State, TCU, Kentucky, Arkansas, North Carolina, UCF, Wake Forest

As far as I care, anything that has negative effect on all the Big 8 turncoats, is fine with me.

11-1 the vote was, 7 of those were our "Bretheren"

KSUcks; and the the real consequences of abandoning NU just when you needed us most have come to roost.

edit: My father bought a lot at Tuttle Creek in 1965 or so. I spent enough time there to know!

NU not part of this. Ludicrous. NU is still a top tier national brand on $ for viewership and that drives $

We all know you feel the need to be recognized. But this post is ridiculously stupid. Even for a KSU fan begging to be heard.

Does it need a Mitch McConnell vote to pass ...might be a tall task

There's some court precedent apparently, I'm no lawyer but this guy has been going on about it for awhile, he's a B1G nerd.

If I was congress I'd warn those schools if they try to break away we'll strip their 501 (c)(3) if they don't maintain their status in the NCAA. That would send those schools flying back.
