He knows ISU is in big trouble being in a terrible conference that produces zero money. It will be hard to attract a good candidate. It’s like hiring a guy to captain the titanic who knows it’s going to sink.

UNC isn’t going to put up with much more of Pervy Bill’s antics. ISU will be able to get him for a song. Ames will be a great stop for him on his way to Florida Gulf Coast University.
The Campball fiasco, collapse of the WBB program, gymnastics program scandal, and funding issues finally got him.
Clown town. He is bailing before that for a reason. Also he hasn’t managed to secure the Iowa game. This is delicious.

ISMoo's biggest issue is that their Athletic Department has no way of escaping or rectifying the impending financial disaster of years of overspending in hopes of a "sweet media deal" that Pollard brought on trying to "be better than Iowa" (or whatever he was trying). But he did bring mostly unprecedented success to ISU. But now, it's time to pay up and that's the part they can't do.
Lucky to keep Campbell as long as they did. I give Pollard credit for that.

You can pump a lot of money into women’s basketball and likely any profit will still be small. Tickets prices are not same as men and tv money will never be close to men.
he did a fine job at ISU. I challenge anybody to do more with less. Contrast him to Barta who gets a $100 million rolling in no matter how worthless he was (and he was).

From what I hear, TJs wife won’t leave, so unless he gets a coed to snuggle inside that smedium shirt of his and gets caught cheating, I have a feeling he’ll be here awhile.
I'll forever be baffled at how he went about filling the HC spot after Campbell left. I don't even think it was 48 hours after Campbell announced he was leaving that they announced his replacement. No search, no interviews. Just weird.
He and Rogers have apparently known each other since the latter's South Dakota years. Possibly the only call he made to replace Campbell, and Pollard may have had a feeling Matt was leaving soon.
I believe it was in place before Campbell even announced he was leaving. No doubt Campbell had already told him and it was all in the works. I think it was the next day they announced Rogers. One call, no fuss, no muss..
Pollard didn’t overspend rather the industry did. Iowa State got hit with $20M in new mandatory costs (House settlement, revenue sharing and market driven salaries). ISU actually had one of the strongest reserves in the country because Pollard ran things conservatively, and that reserve let ISU survive COVID without a loan. (unlike Iowa’s $60M loan). Before anyone drags Cytown into this, look at the actual cost to ISU and the long‑term revenue payback. The Iowa State Center is located on 76 acres of land, and the main contribution (by ISU) was the land for Cytown.
The reserve is shrinking because the entire athletic system expenses exploded, not because Pollard mismanaged anything. The recent price hikes and new revenue streams are responses, not signs of past overspending. And Campbell staying a decade shows ISU wasn’t throwing money around recklessly.
Several Big Ten schools are in far worse financial shape than ISU. The “overspent” narrative just isn’t supported by facts.
The university will find a way to close the $20 million gap and ISU will continue to do more with less resources than our peers.
