There’s no money set aside. He was going to have to get out and fundraise for that money. Our budget wo a stokes has already been passed. There’s so much bs that circulates here. If uk bb were sitting on the resources you think we would have signed several top tier transfer. I remember people saying. “Let’s use the stokes money on momivilosic”. That’s not how that worked and that’s not how this works. It would definitely work against Kentucky for Spears to reclassify. Those resources simply they don’t just sit there in an account.
There’s no support for it. I was talking to a friend who is a major nil donor. There is zero will to fund any more big money recruits. A lot of people feel we paid too much for momicilovic. Pope was fortunate he didn’t get shut down there because there is no will amongst donors to keep doing this every season with questionable players. Idk UKcowboy but his enthusiasm isn’t shared amongst donors or fans. Look at this forum. Which was once vibrant now it’s one page for fb bb and everything else. That is a great analogy for Uk bb under pope. Pope is not even trying to win this season. He’s trying to build up enough recruits and returning players for next year that’s his play. Everybody knows it.
He’s massively flawed. We paid 6 million for a shooter. The guy won’t make that much playing pro ball in Europe. We aren’t getting back to the top as long as mark is around.
It’s kinda easy to figure out because one or 2 teams that miss out will leak the numbers they were offering. And pope who offered stokes big time money and missed out he is not a good source for anything.

Dude, he’s a shooter. That’s it that’s all that’s why he didn’t go to the NBA. Yeah he’s flawed 6‘8“. Goes to the NBA process isn’t gonna be drafted. That’s what you call a flawed player. That’s like the definition of a flawed player. He can shoot, but he’s not gonna get to the basket. He’s not gonna defend well.. he’s a typical Mark Pope recruit that does one thing really well and everything else not. That’s been the Hallmark of all of popes recruits one dimensional. Mark Popes year one a team full of guys that can play offense cannot defend except for a guy here and there. Last season. Guys who can defend but cannot shoot. And then this roster. A lot of it to be determined but we re gonna be a questionable defensive team. I mean, basically his niche Pope’s niche is going after the leftovers. The guys that are the one dimensional borderline draft picks that are on the outside and have to show something new but no one yet has been able to diversify their game and become a solid draft pick. The one that Pope stuck meaning the one that he like nailed as a recruit played two games for us. I’m sorry, but I don’t see this program headed towards becoming final. Four caliber were the same as we’ve been with this guy as coach. All those guys are watching in Las Vegas all those guys on the summer league teams guys probably will never make an NBA team. There’s a reason that all of Popes players are ending up there.

If Pope whiffs on the next class and doesn't get to the Elite Eight, I hope he's replaced next spring. I'm tired of UK being used to get guys more money. It's embarrassing.
here is a scary thought....the same boosters and NIL donors who are reluctant to pony up for the major talent we need to compete.....why would they pay the buyout and the new salary for the incoming coach, as well as pledge support/promise that the NIL dollars will be there for the next guy to shop for groceries? what if we are stuck with pope for 3, 4 or 5 more years until people finally feel bad about being middle of the pack isnt good enough....
texas and ark will almost always have more talent then us with pope running the show and given the current state of NIL. bama and tenn have the better coaches compared to pope. florida has a young, cocky, and hungry coach that is on a heater. hard to see us really breaking through as a preimier program any time soon if we are looking up in the conference all the time.
