I don’t really know how realistic of a chance UK has regardless of what class he is in, but man he’d be perfect for the roster. A lot is going to hinge on the play of Hawthorne and Kam at the 3. I think both can be serviceable. Especially Kam Williams, but if you somehow added Spears it would be unreal

Marcus Spears Jr? Oof, that makes me feel really, really old.

I watched his father play basketball at a Nike All American camp when HE was in high school. Seems like only a few years ago.

He dominated. To me, he looked like the best player there. It was like watching Charles Barkley play against a bunch of skinny high school kids. He'd go right through defenders like a bowling ball through bowling pins, and then he'd finish the play with a nasty dunk on the head of any defender who was still in his way.

After the camp, I was shocked to see that the recruiting "experts" had him ranked somewhere around #30 in his class.

Then I read that he didn't even plan to play basketball in college and instead was going to focus on football.

Sister plays volleyball for Texas so it’s logical for the family
It's logical that a future top 3 pick follows his sister to her volleyball school and let her set the tone for his future career decisions?

Man, we come up with some creative reasons for Pope to miss on another recruit.

Feels really weird eating 2nd, 3rd, and 4th now.

If I am Pope, I take the money set aside for Kusturica the next two years and give the whole wad to Spears Jr. With that kid, this team would have a shot at #9
I like the way you think. Pope's next top 15 pick will be his first. Might as well make a huge splash and land the best player in the class. Pope needs to go all-in on this kid.

Texas kid. I'm fully expecting Miller to build Texas into a beast, as he'll have NIL, facilities and Austin to sell. Spears is a Texas kid, so UT sounds right. Kids is probably the best US player in next two classes.

To me, right now, in terms of programs I can see being at the top of the sport for the next 5 years:

Coach. /. NIL. / Program-Facilities-Culture-Location

1) Duke - Coach 7, NIL 10, Program 10
2) UConn - Coach 10, NIL 8, Program/Etc 8
3) Zona - Coach 7, NIL 8, Program/Etc 9
4) Texas - Coach 8, NIL 10, Program 9
5) Florida - Coach 8, NIL 9, Program 9

There is zero reason for a top kid NOT to reclassify. He gets paid his millions early. I don't know why any kid would stay in HS another year.

It IS logical. We have seen siblings enjoy being at the same school. In this case, Texas is a big time program in a moment of resurgence under a well-respected coach. So, it’s not as if his sister being there was the only reason but understandable if it A reason. Relax on your conspiracy interpretations that all opinions that justify recruiting decisions are about Pope. It’s really getting old.

I hope you’re right but we offered more money for several recruits and they went elsewhere.
This is the kind of misinformation I hate seeing spread by our own fans. NIL offers are not reported. NIL contracts are not reported. The same guys who are completely wrong on where someone is going are the people just guessing and throwing out numbers for clicks.
You are taking someone’s guess who is wrong as much as right and repeating it as fact.
Not one fan or one insider has ever been privy to the details of NIL negotiations.
Stop believing what you read for clicks. Pope himself said when he actually reads what is being written 98% has zero factual basis. Just guys making crap up for clicks to make money.

To be fair most people have been claiming he's Texas or LSU bound for some time.
