And the counter argument

Counter argument made by someone who is making up approval numbers and is obviously an opponent of Zelensky.

Other sources tell a different story.

In mid-2026, Volodymyr Zelenskyy maintains a strong public trust rating, with polling showing that roughly 58% to 61% of Ukrainians trust him. Despite this stable wartime approval, broader political sentiment is divided, as only about 28% of respondents want him to remain president after the war. [1, 2]
Polling Details and Context:
  • Overall Trust: A nationwide survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology showed 61% of respondents trust the president, while 33% do not, resulting in a net trust balance of +28 percentage points. [1]
  • Post-War Outlook: Regarding his political future, 28% want Zelenskyy to remain president, 16% see him taking on a different political role, and about 30% believe he should leave politics altogether once the conflict ends. [1]
  • Wartime Realities: Presidential elections in Ukraine are currently suspended under martial law. With ongoing fatigue and the pressures of a prolonged conflict, Zelenskyy faces competition scrutiny and criticism from various opposition figures. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Poll: Zelenskyy maintains approval rating, but support for former commander-in-chief Zaluzhnyi has dropped by 9% over the year | Ukrainska Pravda

Putin starting the war with Ukraine, much like Trump starting his blunder with Iran, has put both leaders in a precarious position.
Both leaders assumed it would be quick and easy.
Now that it's dragging out, there is no graceful exit.
So it's become a "slog", where world opinion has turned against them and their citizens pay the price.
The comparison is remarkable.

What is the general consensus on the war lately? It seems as if Ukraine is making strides with drone attacks and that Moscow is truly having fuel shortages. Is Ukraine really making progress?
As you have pointed out, we are viewing progress through the lens of what is being reported by Ukraine, but it certainly seems like Crimea is in a world of hurt being under siege, and there are fuel shortages in Russia. In my non-expert opinion, this, more than having hundreds of thousands of casualties will hasten and end to things. As for the actual front lines, it seems like Ukraine has momentum.

Momentum has greatly shifted to Ukraine, Russia is still making extremely slow progress in Eastern Ukraine by throwing thousands of soldiers in the meat grinder. I recently saw 8-1 casualty rates for Russian soldiers. Ukraine has been able to advance its long range and mid-range drone programs technology and also the production capabilities. Russia's size was once it advantage but now it is its greatest weakness, Russia has no way to cover all that land. Its rear and refineries are now sitting ducks for nightly drone attacks. Ironically, one of the world's largest producers of oil has an extreme shortage of refined products - gas and diesel from the attacks on refineries. Russia has been so heavily sanctioned and removed from the world's economy that its problems are insulated inside Russia and not felt by the rest of the world. Putin now has to prioritize locations for the air defense systems which looks like Moscow/St Petersburg/Kerch Bridge. They have lost Crimea and very soon their entire economy will come to a complete halt if something doesn't drastically change.

Ukraine now has the logistical advantage that it can get resupplied by Europe through Poland. Putin cannot attack Ukraine's supply line without NATO entering in the fight. This might be why we hear rumors of a possible attack on Poland. The war isn't close to being over IMO, but the noose is tightening around Putin's neck.

The Poland variable in this equation is huge. If they mobilize, its over for Russia. Poland appears to be preparing for such an undertaking. It is beyond a doubt that Russia has been floundering these last years in a slog. Their losses are terrible. I don't see how this goes well for Russia, unless they start a nuclear war.

The Kiev Institute of Sociology.... yep, that's reliable.
(muffled laughter). Are you still a moderator? Never see you post on the war chant... why not?

Unrelated: obviously on this site you can post political views, but on war chant its strictly verboten. Trying to get my arms around this... I've read a couple of threads that would've got me banned for life 5 times over on our site, but its just common place here.... hmmm I had no idea you could post on other teams' message boards.... new world

What is the moderating policies on this board? I've never really strayed from war chant so I feel like I've landed on a new planet...

Argue with Goole AI and not me. There was also a second source mirroring the results. (riotous laughter)

No. I haven't been affiliated with Warchant since 2018 or 2019. Somewhere around there.

That’s the end of the line for you. Your infantile act and stupidity in other threads is sometimes amusing in threads you start or that are political but now you are spamming this Ukraine thread. Off to the ignore burn pile with you and I predict many others will follow. You will have your wish and soon have nobody to talk to like it was back in March.

Oh the irony is thick. Someone invaded your little Ukraine thread? You **** invaded the whole board.

I suppose logic was not offered as a course at FSU.
