Kind of tells you the talent gap we've had to deal with over these first few Pope seasons. Oweh was one of our best players in both production and overall talent.. and hes just not gonna have much of an NBA career. It's that simple. You're not gonna win Final4s when your best player is Oweh.

Sad but true. Hate to see him struggling and wish he came back for another season.

I remain thrilled Oweh is gone from the program. I was never in those practices or locker room, but on the floor Oweh gave off the impression he was a cancer. Reasonable minds can differ.
Year one no. Year two yes. But I feel like year two wasn't just because he was a cancer. I think a couple bad eggs made him become a bad egg himself. Mo and florida boy to be exact. They thought they were better than they were.

They were bench players at their previous school and came here thinking they were top dog. I kind of could relate to Owehs frustrations but that's still no excuse to be a bad leader.

I agree. But I think the age of truly admirable sports heroes is over and has been for quite some time.

This was never once an issue his first year. The whole idea of it is silly to me. He never once did anything to show he was a bad team mate or player. He showed up everyday and produced. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Money changes things/people. I felt that Oweh was a big part of a dysfunctional roster last season. I don’t know if he was the primary malcontent, but our team was a mess.

I know Oweh's jumper isn't good enough, nor do I think he's tall enough, to be an NBA 3 and D guy.

I think it was a whole team thing honestly. I don’t think Pope is the type of coach who can manage a poor roster fit.

Something definitely was rotten on that 2nd team. You cant even pinpoint to one guy because so many looked checked out at various times. But Oweh was part of that for sure. I wondered if he was miffed that he didnt get to thr NBA after year 1. But besides that, its clear the team chemistry was bad. Much different than the year 1 guys like Amar, Jrob, Butler, Carr.

You really enjoy hating on UK & UK players.

Also, 1st game was 3-7, so not bad.
I mean yeah thats pretty bad, + No I dont enjoy hating on uk players, if Koby, Amari, or Oweh ever have a great game I'll be the first person to post it on here.

I think he spent most of the OOC trying to prove he was something he wasn't. Conference play hit and he got back to doing what he was good at and it turned his season and the team's season around. That was my take. More issues than that for sure but for him specifically I think he had agents in his ear trying to get him to prove to the league he was something he was not.

I think it's obvious to anyone with a pulse that Kentucky needs a significant talent upgrade in the future.
Totally agree. Oweh was great, but in my mind he should have been third best on the team tops. If that's the case, you're a threat. When he's the primary threat a Sweet 16 was always going to be the ceiling. Nothing against him, more about the roster construction and talent around him than any fault of his.

Year 1 is tough. Because we did lose a lot of games, BUT it was a brand new team, brand new coach, and we played in the hardest conference that I think has ever been recorded. At the end of the day, the metrics did show that we were a 3-seed/top10 kind of team. We won the tournament games we should have, and then our lack-of-focus reared it's ugly head against Tennessee, despite beating them twice already (which one could argue, beating a team 3 times is extremely tough to do in any sport).

Having double digit losses does sting. I guess if we played in the ACC or another conference, we might have been around 7 or 8 losses, or maybe less.

I still have hope that last season was an outlier. Pope did a great job in year 1. He’s a smart guy and learned some hard lessons about roster management.
The team quit in year one too.

The outlier is year 1. That, however flawed, was the best team and finish of Pope’s career.

And what has Pope learned? His teams don’t defend or rebound.

He brings in no defenders or rebounders.

The shot against Santa Clara was awesome. But it was Santa Clara! Not Duke, Kansas, UNC, etc. Santa Clara; where we should never have been in a losing position to have a lucky shot get us to overtime.

Man, you were serious piece of work that team did not quit at all in year one if anything they did everything they could fight through the injuries

Loved year 1 Oweh, but not so much year 2 Oweh… But let’s be real here, if he was the leading scorer for any other team besides UK the past two seasons, he wouldn’t have even sniffed a 2nd round selection.
