So Argentina should have held Messi out of the Austria game after he committed a similar foul against Algeria that didn't even get reviewed? He scored both goals against Austria.
Why would they hold him out if he didn't receive a red card?

What does that matter?

If you are advocting for the "Hall Of Fame Of Integrity" then official rulings (such as Messi not getting a red card or Balogun being deemed eligible by FIFA) shouldn't matter.

Was really looking forward to the Battle for the Iberian Peninsula and it was just kind of meh. Not very many great scoring chances (more for Spain - Costa did make some great saves for Portugal), no real amazing individual plays I can recall and lots of sloppiness (some due to good defense). Time for the US to go get some revenge against Belgium...

Agree. But in true Spain fashion they are like a cat tiring out a mouse as its prey, then they find a way to go for the kill. Portugal did have a couple of interesting chances at the very end though.

England will undoubtedly demand, citing precedent, that Quansah receive the same probation treatment that Balogun did. How can Infantino say no?

That's a rhetorical question of course. He'll say no because he feels like it. End of story.

Yeah I know that this whole mess inures to the benefit of the US. And I am not naive about the degree of FIFA corruption. So I guess this shouldn't bother me. But it kinda does.

Quansahs was a studs up tackle. The ball got under him a little and lifted his leg, but the call was pretty reasonable. Baloguns red was a yellow at best - it was incidental and just two guys trying to gain position.

The outcome is the right one. But the process is messed up and only confirms what everyone thinks of FIFA. A proper post game review should have reversed the card without prompting from a head of state. I’d probably be more critical if Messi and Ronaldo hadn’t also benefitted from the corruption.

Why is Flo wearing a sleeve on his left knee? Never seen him wear one in any club or country match before.

Ream standing flat footed on the goal and Richards indecisive on what to do along with several others. That's where the CBs need to be at their best.

Just tried to watch soccer for about 5 minutes. Had to give up since it was SO DAMN BORING. They were lightly tapping the ball to each other and playing grab ***. And then some guy went down like he was shot, but in reality, nothing happened. Even LeBron would be jealous of such flopping.

I'll try to watch again in 4 years.

We got lucky on our goal with the deflection, so I consider us lucky to only be down 2-1 at the half. We didn't make this many bad passes in the first 4 games. Big lack of composure so far. The good news is we can't play much worse.

Because none of the prior opponents were close to the quality of Belgium. Not looking as good was expected against a quality opponent.

They just need to counter the midfield pressure and breakout better.

Funny anyone ever thought things would be different. This is USA soccer. Never nearly good enough against real teams.

They went with the wrong formation, should have been a three back since CB is the 2nd biggest weakness on the team. This two back setup has always been exposed against quality teams.
