President Trump makes call for US Soccer Team

Would not have been reversed without Trump intervention.

🇺🇸 ⚽ TRUMP FIXES A BAD CALL. WHY CAN'T MORE LEADERS FIGHT FOR AMERICA LIKE THIS?!

Folarin Balogun got robbed with a red card against Bosnia and Herzegovina for basically nothing. Zero intent. A phantom foul turned into a season-defining injustice.

President Trump did not sit back and watch our guy get sidelined for the biggest game of his career.

He picked up the phone and called FIFA President Gianni Infantino directly.

Days later, FIFA reversed course. Balogun is back in the lineup for the Round of 16 clash with Belgium.

Trump put it simply.

"Thank you to FIFA for doing what was right, and reversing a great injustice!"

Christian Pulisic backed it up too, saying there were far worse fouls all tournament that went unpunished.

Belgium is crying foul now, calling the reversal "astonished." Of course they are. Nobody fights for their players the way Trump fights for ours.

This is what leadership looks like. You do not wait for the system to correct itself. You make the call yourself.

America has a president willing to go to bat for a 25 year old soccer star just like he goes to bat for this whole country.

Let's bring home that Round of 16 win. USA, USA, USA.

🚨 WOW! President Trump didn't only call FIFA President Gianni Infantino about the faulty red card suspension against USA's Folarin Balogun — but assembled a team of LAWYERS from outside the government to challenge it, per @claytravis

A TRUE LEADER!

Sec. Howard Lutnick and Andrew Giuliani were also reportedly involved 🔥

The decision was ultimately made by the independent FIFA committee.

47 DID THE RIGHT THING. This is honestly what every country has a responsibility to do — speak up for your people! 🇺🇸

red card should've never been called. Don't know what impact donnie had on the reversal, but Infantino is as corrupt as they come so i'm sure he got something nice.

Props to Trump if he actually did do something to get this verdict overturned

I think any president should do this, and especially since we’re a host nation. So if it’s true, then props to Trump for doing it, I just hope it wasn’t anything corrupt because FIFA is notoriously corrupt.

but as fskillet already said, the red card was atrocious so the decision is ultimately best for the game

Why would FIFA listen?

never should have been a red card to begin with.

FIFA and WNBA are the same organization?

I think the World Cup in America has been great. The foreign visitors seem to love the country. I am tired of the self loathing and self hate. Sort of proves it just a bunch of noise not worth listening to.

Im about as pro trump as a centrist can reasonably be and I dont like this move. Fouls and bad calls happen, its part of the game. It will only create excuses and ******** moving forward. Trump has zero connection to US soccer. Portnoy is wrong. I sure as hell dont want the president ringing in a decade of New York Knick dominance because they have "good guys" on the team.

The best case scenerio would have been beating them without Balogun. Then no one can *****.

Imagine being mad at Trump instead of FIFA.

Peak TDS right there

Trump is a mobster ... always has been. He lives in the world of grifting and threatening that pervades the mob.

One can be angry that the initial call was wrong (it happens, it's sports) and also see that we've now had the proceedings sullied by a mobster coming in and threatening a party to "fix it or else," making it much harder to support the team that's going out there. Balogun should do the righteous thing and sit out voluntarily, rather than be indebted to a mob boss.

The initial call was correct. It was only AFTER VAR called down that the red was issued. That was incorrect.

You gotta think this has a lot to do with it.

When we win the world cup this year the name of the sport is officially being changed to soccer. The libs are going to meltdown because trump personally assisted the team in going the distance. It's going to be glorious all around lol

You knew what I meant ... but you are correct. I was obviously referencing the issuance of the red card as being incorrect.

On one hand, from what I've read and researched he shouldn't have gotten the red card to begin with.

On the other hand, not a big fan of the President getting involved, as it makes the overturned call smell of corruption.

Conflicted on this.

If Trump were president in 1985 the Cardinals would have another World Series title. Even AI knows how bad the call was...

The most infamous blown call in World Series history happened in Game 6 of the 1985 World Series. First base umpire Don Denkinger incorrectly ruled Jorge Orta safe on a close ground ball. This missed call shifted the momentum, allowing the Kansas City Royals to rally and eventually win the championship over the St. Louis Cardinals. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

It was a bad call and I generally believe in the concept of "it's never the wrong time to do the right thing". But it should have been reversed the next day if it was going to be. The timing screams corruption, even if no money/favors exchanged hands. Trump shouldn't have gotten involved (probably should focus on his illegal war or any of the myriad issues they're ignoring), although I suspect he really didn't play much of a role.
