If you only show up in World Cup years and feel the need to tell the world how to fix its most popular sport…..just stifle it Edith. You are clueless and nobody cares about what you think. That’s the honest truth.

Being American and a fan of a sport thats only worthwhile here in this country every 32 years is pointless. Just move to Europe.

Thats the honest truth.

This is bait. And I’m not falling for it.

I will continue to complain from a safe distance about the $h!tastic failure that is the majority of the MSU athletic department. I will not give one thin dime to this abortion of colossal stupidity called NIL. I will not support in any manner the handing of insane amounts of money to 18-22 year old halfwits with as-yet-not-developed brains. I will continue to offer my unsolicited opinion about this lunacy without acknowledging in the slightest that, because I do not and will not hand over my hard earned money or free time to the brain trust currently occupying the pork palace, I am disqualified from expressing my disdain.

Is there a spreadsheet or flow chart I could study to determine my necessary level of caring that would allow me to form opinions?

I'm not really interested in finding out how worthwhile State football and baseball is to other Americans. It's my team regardless.

Even more annoying than the people who post in soccer threads about how much they hate the sport are the soccer fans who think the sport is this mystical thing that simpletons can’t understand and only the truly enlightened ones really know. The sport to them is above reproach and if you dare question it, you’re just a simpleton rube who is too dumb to understand. Please know that most soccer fans in America aren’t like that. I love soccer and welcome anybody who wants to watch the sport. I also admit there are things about it that could be improved and understand why some people don’t like it. It’s great to see so many people watching the World Cup, and hopefully some of them become fans of the sport and continue to watch it and the sport continues to grow in America. But the attitude of some people like the OP is what really turns a lot of new or potential fans off.

Unless football and basketball fans lose interest in those respective sports, soccer fans may as well come to grips with being a third tier sport in America. The same exact things being said today were also being said 30 years ago. Guess what has changed? Not much. It’s futile.

Now if we want to talk about the growth of women’s sports that’s completely different. They will be talking over in most of our lifetimes. There’s ABSOLUTELY meaningful momentum there. Softball has already surpassed baseball on the collegiate level for example. That momentum will only grow because it is a more exciting sport.

Trying to get Americans to feel a specific way about soccer though? Good luck with that man, sincerely. You’d probably have just as good of luck moving to England and trying to convince everyone there that they should all feel a specific way about American football.

It's watched by adolescent boys (and in today's society girls too) hoping to glance a bouncing tit or a Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction. *

Completely disagree. Now more than ever it’s accessible to watch every league in the world. That wasn’t the case after the ‘94 World Cup.

But you also had a huge divisive MLB strike that soccer couldn’t even capitalize on. Unless MLS goes to relegation and teams outside of Miami drop major cash on European and South American players. It will not be a top 3 sport.

Also not to be conspiracy theorist or anything but I wonder if the networks don’t care if soccer doesn’t take over for another sport because of the lack of commercial opportunities.

MLS making one move to improve. They are moving to the Sept-May schedule Europe uses.

I tried getting into it. I really did. It's just too painful watching them go up and down the field...back and forth...for what seems like hours with little to no scoring. It's like a goal is the only thing to cheer about, and of course that's rare. Even in baseball you have stuff to cheer for and keep the game interesting, like a good hit, a stolen base or a critical out. Or maybe I'm missing something.

I just don't get it 🤷.

Comparing the media market in 1994 vs 2026 is like comparing the NAIA playoffs vs the CFP

I feel bad for the ticket office intern that has to call an idiot like you and listen to your babbling. You are woefully ignorant and the fanbase would be better off without you. You should look into a lobotomy

Is a goal line stand that results in a turnover on downs exciting to you? When the ball isnt in the middle third someone is threatening to score, there can be excitement without points.
