Wishing everyone a safe and happy 4th of July. 
Thank you to ALL who have shed blood for that FLAG we call old Glory.

Just had an air show over here in Howell. About 24 helicopters of all types just flew directly over our farm, slow and low from Lakehurst over to the beach. After 15 yrs. of living here, 1st time seeing something cool like that. Usually, we just see the supply and refueler aircraft.

They didn't really mean THAT, of course. Not ALL. They didn't mean women, or men who didn't own property, or Blacks (enslaved or otherwise). And certainly not the "merciless Indian Savages" cited later in the document.
But it was a start. A damn good start. An all-important start. The generations that followed have built on it. Progress has been made. Not in a straight line, but in Dr. King's words, the arc has bent toward justice.
Our record in those 250 years has been far from spotless. But I'll stack it up against anybody else's.
So... Happy Birthday to us. Not just to the U.S. To US. This land is your land, this land is my land, etc. etc.
I raise my glass to the next 250.

Flying my 100+ year old 48 star relic from great great grandad. Last time i flew it was after 9/11.
On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence, announcing the colonies’ separation from Great Britain. The Constitution provides the legal and governmental framework for the United States. However, the Declaration, with its eloquent assertion “all Men are created equal,” is equally beloved by the American people.

I have 3 relatives who served in the Continental Army during the war. All 3 were brothers and born in Morristown. One served in the 1st NJ regiment and after being mustered out early in the war, joined a NY militia. The captain of the militia company had a daughter who became my relatives wife. He survived the war and lived until 1831 and is buried in New York 20 minutes from my wife's sister.
One of his brothers joined a Sussex County, N.J. militia that became part of the 2nd New Jersey Regiment. He died in 1777 of TB and is buried in Morristown. The 3rd brother was an army wagoner who joined in 1780 and had enlisted for 3 years. He died in 1782 of smallpox and is also buried in Morristown. Although I am heartbroken for the 2 that died during the war, I am VERY happy that one of them survived to see the beginning years/decades of what would become the greatest country that God ever created. As a tribute to them, I had someone make me a shirt to wear for the 4th with their names, year of birth and death, and their regiments/militia on it. God Bless them and all who gave us what we have today. Forever in my heart.
