Last year you could get in with only 4 wins out of 9 games which is a joke! Which is a 44% winning percentage.

What is the meaning of a regular season if you advance with a 44% clip?

I dont remember advancing to the next grade level at school by getting 44% right on my tests.

Should work out well for the CCL - They are the only league that has 3 or 4 win teams that can legit beat a 9-0/8-1 from another league.

On the downside, I guess it could hurt the prep bowl?

So it's then possible to win your first 3 games and then take a team rest and forfeit your next 6 games to go 3-6, and then back ready to play for the playoffs.

And so according to the IHSA I can get 33% on all my tests and still advance to the next grade level.

I have no idea on this so honest question. When they toyed around with breaking up conferences and making everything district the intial vote passed and they allowed a revote where it was shut down by a wide margin. Why was their no secondary vote for this? Was there enough the first time around not to merit a revote?

All.... Results came out on 12-16-2025. (19) Moves the start of Ihsa football games up one week (Eliminating Week 0 scrimmage) and adds 16 teams per classification to the playoffs.

The vote 377 - 252 ( 96 no opinion) 725 with 90.40% of membership participating. Ratsy

My understanding is that it was a timing issue. When the original districts proposal was passed it was set to begin nearly the following year after passage. This current playoff expansion was purposely submitted to take effect with a much shorter window aka much less time (smart) before taking effect. I'm still hearing from coaches all over the state this will be a one and done deal with the playoff expansion. Time will tell.

Yeah I think the unintended consequences are going to be immense. Consequences that were obvious, to me. Then there will be some unknown unknowns.

You would not believe the "work-arounds" and "back doors" available to HS students not really making the grade to advance. Credit recovery gimmicks abound, some of which are so non-traditional that AI can do all the work to be submitted. Ask any HS math teacher about the the number of students sitting in class not truly possessing the prerequisite skills for the course.

Agree... Many are not in favor of this and a revote should've been conducted!~

The math and reading skills of one in eight students admitted to UC San Diego don't even meet middle-school requirements. Likewise, one in eight teams making the playoffs wouldn't be able to compete in the Pop Warner League.

All I will say is it works for basketball…

-You dont have to add all those additional games for no reason to figure out who the true state champ becomes.

-Again this is another sport with no regular season. The regular season is nothing more than a bunch of exhibition games followed by playoffs.

-If all these teams want to be in the playoffs then create a separate 2nd tournament for them like the NIT Tournament. It's as simple a fix as that.

-For IHSA football playoffs we already have 2 weeks of blowout playoff football last year. Why wait 3 weeks to play competitive football again? Why wait 4 or 5 weeks this upcoming year?

-Why does everyone want to reward the pathetic?

-Basketball can be played 5x a week. Football is played once a week. Time is of the essence.

Basketball has how many classes?

if football were the same, I would be on board with the current 1 win to make the playoffs format

Its only going to take one 3-6/2-7 CCL team making a run to change things back to the old way. Edgy is right, should be a "one and done" experiment. What kind of noise will a school like Leo make in 3A? Marist, Notre Dame, DePaul Prep would have all been qualifiers last year under the new system.

It's gonna happen. I posted earlier Rita could very well with their schedule finish 3-6 and that's without MC or BR on their schedule, and I really believe they would make a run in 7A unless they meet BR or ESL early on. They good team with a hard schedule. Last year they were 5-4 and got in with a week 9 win and outside of a tight game in round 2 with LWC they coasted to the Championship game and that was blowing out Batavia and Hersey.....well Hersey scored they just decided not to play Defense that day. Laurence was 5-4 (I think) and made it to the Semis.

So while I'm not a big fan of this new system it does benefit good teams with hard schedules and it will also be less of a challenge for top teams to find non-conference opponents....even though BR still needs a week 2....
