We have a lot to be thankful for. We have a lot of freedom and liberties. But we also are a mess right now and we need to become a better place for our citizens and the world.

Enjoy your picnics, hot dogs and apple pie, fireworks and great parades and gatherings. I know I will.

I'm grateful this country is great enough that it is still capable of transcending political differences. Now if we could just get rid of the scumbags, neer-do-wells and freeloaders, we'd still be a great country.

But in spite of that, we live in a place with freedom, incredible beauty and amazing resilience.
