Okay. Here in North Carolina it is coming up to planting time. I have tripled my garden space (due to out of control indeterminate tomato vines. Which comes to my first question. I have more space but am going with all determinate bush tomatoes. I have a dozen or so varieties to choose from including Cherry Washington, Ruby Crush, Gold Nugget, Floradade and San Marzano for sauce. Anyone have thoughts or favorite varieties ?

Momotaro is my favorite slicer. Health Kick Hybrid and San Marzanio's are my sauce tomatoes. I've been loyal to Health Kick Hybrid for over 20 years. Stable. Hold the vine. Productive..... They've made 20+ years of Christmas Eve lasagna.... The "health kick" name came from 50% more lycopine than other varieties.

We planted San Marzano last year for the first time and we were quite pleased with them. They seemed to ripen late. And the plants didnt have many at first, then they exploded with tomatoes.

The other variety we planted was Early Girl. Theyre good, but nothing special.

I think we ended up with 48 jars of sauce and a dozen or so jars of stewed tomatoes from 12 plants.

Maybe not everyone’s choice …… for the last 12 years: “big mama”. Huge paste tomatoes. You don’t have to pick 100’s as the are so large. Fill a 5 gallon pail very quickly. For all my pasta sauce and salsa.

Just planted my first avacado tree here in south Florida. Looking forward to some fresh one's mid summer. Lime tree is blooming nicely with about 30 flowers so far on it. Need my limes for cooking, ceviche and of course adult beverages.

I wish I had a fresh lemon or lime tree. Just a few weeks ago it went down to 3 degrees.

As I get older my pepper tolerance has been impacted, Anyone have a pepper variety that is sweet but some spice? I have grown Fresno chiles but sometimes they get real hot. Has anyone grown Calabrian chiles? I have some giant jalapeno seeds. I need something that is complimentary for sauce and salsas.

Garden season has been near perfect weather here in Cherryville, NC. Except for one cold scare (I planted 4/10) as long as you have a water source for your garden it will grow. Today I made 7 quarts of pickles, 4 pints of pickled banana peppers and picked 8 heads of buttercrisp lettuce. I have about 200 tomatoes of various sizes, ripeness and variety. And I have 3 Ambrosia melons already with about 25 more flowers. Never had a garden this abundant.
Hows the North doing?

I follow Rick Bayless’s one pretty closely but use the rotisserie attachment on my Kamado Joe to cook, slicing a couple of times like Smokin’ Dad does. I do use quality canned pineapple juice in the marinade instead of fresh chunks to avoid pickled meat. I put some fresh slices on the spit between every few layers of pork.

While i generally prefer oak or other hardwoods, I like fruit wood for this one. Peach or apple.

Had a gorgeous and huge Lemon and Lime tree die just before COVID.

Just found out that there is some disease in Florida that is killing them. Its spread by pollinators. It's apparently put a huge dent in the citrus market here. They have no cure for it, but they are constantly inspecting citrus groves. If a tree has it - you have to cut it down, root it out immediately.

Scary stuff.

Recently purchased a Traeger pellet smoker.
What is the best brand of pellets out there?
Late to the party. My Green mountain is on its last leg. I think it’s ok, however, it has hot spots. Tried everything.
anyway after lots of reading and research I’m going with a: Recteq. Great reviews including even heating and built like a tank. I’ll let you know after me first ribs and prime rib.
Oops! Misread your thread, did you find any good pellets. I have trouble spending a lot for pellets until I can see a difference,

I've been using Pit Boss and they seem ok, but I see a lot of different brands out there and I was curious what experienced people tend to use.
