I was so sure that Kate was going to get her Dad's # 15. I guess she is going to make #11 into a great number for Tar Heel WBB.

Great looking roster. Where is Noelle Bofia ? I hope it is just a typo.

Bofia is here, so I guess the press release was botched.. they missed the redshirted player from last season as a "returnee" but she is also not on the recruit list.

The goHeels release I saw included Bofia so I am guessing it was just cutoff in the posting. As you stated she is here.

Things can change obviously, but looks like we are rolling with 14.

With the five-to-play-five rule pending, there may not be too much room for freshman class recruits this 2027 class cycle.

We have 5 rising seniors on this team's roster, but none of them have taken a redshirt year, so in theory all will gain an additional year of eligibility and can play in 2027-28:
  1. Sydney Barker
  2. Reniya Kelly
  3. Achol Akot
  4. Sophie Burrows
  5. Chloe Clardy
Note that the retention rate for those entering grad school was less than 50% during the COVID extended eligibility years. Between players who are encouraged to move on with their degree, do not qualify academically for your grad programs, are interested in a different grad program, or are just ready for another school/paycheck, grad students just transfer even more often than undergrads. So it is logical to assume that some players will move on.

But unless they make their intentions known basically before their senior season, you cannot recruit high school seniors over more than maybe 1 or at most 2 players. It becomes a risky business. The transfer portal is too far after HS signing day.

So knowing what we know right now about players leaving, we may have only 1, perhaps 2 spots we are confident will be open for 2027 seniors. I cant see us recruiting more than 3 at most.

Note that Hull and Toomey both did take redshirt years, so they are 4th year rising juniors this year and 2027-28 will also be their 5th and last year. So right now, on paper, we have a whopping 7 who will exhaust eligibility in 2027-28, making for a large 2028 HS class. Of course, in the portal era that will shift, but it is still safe to assume a larger class that year.

If RK is healthy she will certainly play. If she can return to previous form I actually think she could play some SG beside Kate. The defensive matchup would probably determine if that was possible.

DSPHeel that is LOL. I know you are kidding right? If RK is healthy which I would suspect she will be since she hardly played this past season, she will be starting. Kate just recently had shoulder surgery so we really do not know if she will be 100% ready at the start of the season. To be honest, I can see RK, CC, KH, GW are rotating in throughout the season. Who the starters will be IDK right now. All four will be competing for those two sports along with SB. There are different combinations CB and staff can roll out with. She can have a big line up at the guard spots or a smaller line up at the guard spots. It all depends on who were are playing against, who has the hot hand, etc.

Unhealthy RK: sure, that is possible.

Healthy RK: one of the few former All-Conference players returning in the conference wont even make the rotation?
That guard depth is deep. Harping will start and play, either at PG or the 2. The Stanford Xfer will play (and she’s durable). Burrows is either the best or 2nd best outside shooter, she’ll play.
Maybe I’m down on RK after last season, but there’s no guarantee she’ll get major minutes, IMO.

It is going to be interesting to see who starts, etc. The good news is, if you started last year, there is no guarantee that you will automatically start this year, which means you will have to work your tail off in the offseason in order to separate yourselves from your teammates. This is a good problem to have.

As usual a bit of pie in the blue sky. Re the poster that is interested in the back-court rotation, should I presume you noticed that 9 on the players noted are said to be guard. Most of those 9 are smallish guards. I presume Harpring will be healthy, waaay superior to any other guard on the roster, and likely to play at least 30 minutes in any game that matters. By basic that might mean that leaves about 50 minutes for the other 8 listed as guards. We may have gotten bigger by team total measurement of totality of inches, but I do not believe we are truly bigger. The Acot lady better be good to replace the strongest Tar Heel, Harris. lMO Thomas should not count until she re-appears and can get up and down the court.I wish her well. We might be good, I will be surprised if we challenge for tops in ACC.
As fans go, I have no expectations. I was strong back to before Silvia's title, but on a fade per WBB ever since. LOOOOng history of secondary, or worse. At least we no longer play the "headless chicken style' of Sylvia's last few seasons. Now there is a bit of control. Not bad but never a challenge for the top since. I say so what, I want to see it on the court. Y'all can all talk about the sweet cream and roses.

I think this roster has more bonafide players than last year's team. What I mean is we have only one walk on player on this roster, and the rest are scholarship players. Sidney B is now a scholarship player but her freshman year she was a walk on. Also, this roster has players who have played a substantial amount of minutes whether it be a UNC or for those who have transferred from other schools. Lastly, this year's team will more a veteran team with more experience than a team full of youngsters or a ton of freshmen who have never played in college before or this will be their first year playing college ball.

Going from memory:
Kate H 5'11-Sophie B 6'2-Nyla B 6'1- A Acot 6-1- C Toomey 6'5

Chloe C 5'9-Blanca T 6-5-Noelle B 6'4-Reniya Kelly 5'7-L Hull 6'1-Jordan Z 6'0- G White 5'10

Tall athletic starters. We just need great team chemistry like we had last season.

I think Blanca is 6 feet 5.5inches tall or 6 feet 6. She appears to be slightly taller than CT. I think we added height at the wing and 2 guard positions. Sophia B at 6 fee 2 is tall at the 2 position. 5 feet 10 is good heigh at the PG position IMO.

Hello Jriv. Debbie Antonelli is my source but she has said on TV, broadcasting UNC games that Ciera Toomey was a legit 6'5 and Blanca was 6'51/2. Debbie's source was CB.

I think the fact we can put a taller more physical team on the court is going to be a big plus next season.

Texas and UConn took advantage of physical play against Elina and Lanie that I thought should have been called fouls to turn the tide of our games vs. them. The good old bady bumps took their toll IMO.

To equalize things stronger more physical players will make us tougher to beat.

Of course making Layups, Free throws and a good 3pt % are must's.

I cannot wait for some news to leak out. I know we have several team practices over the summer.

Thanks tarboy. I thought BT was a little taller than CT. Your confirmation was needed and greatly appreciated. I just hate it when announcers and people try to negate a players height. I think our team this coming season will be able to handle the physicality on the perimeter; especially guard play with Gabby, CC, and SB.

Don't forget Kate and Reniya. I think they both are strong with the ball. We have seen Reniya in college
dribbling against pressure and I am sure Kate's Dad will have her more than ready for the college bump game that dares the officials to call a foul.

In women's basketball, 65% of players are listed as guards, 30% are listed as forwards and only 5% are listed as centers. It is an aspirational thing where players are listed where they hope they might play in the W some day. It sounds a lot better to be a tall guard than an undersized forward. That is of course not how you field a team. It is safe to assume that on most teams, UNC included, there is a good chance that a "guard" will play the 3 and a "forward" will play the 5.

Hull, listed as a guard, can and will play the 3. She will play the 4 more than she will play the 2. Brooks will play the 3 more than the 2. Queiroz is simply not a guard. point-forward at best, but really more of an undersized 4.

Toomey may start at the 5 again. She certainly can and maybe should play the 4, but that is not the way this and most teams who want the ability to run work. I will be extremely surprised if Bofia comes in with skills to play forward on offense and defense. She is a prototypical center. But both are listed as forwards.

I don't know too much about the transfers as of yet, but I would be very surprised if Burrows at 6'2" plays most her minutes at the 2. I think the 1 & 2 are earmarked for 5'7" Kelly, 5'10" Harpring, 5'9" Clardy, and 5'10" White (assuming good health). Maybe some minutes for 6'1" Brooks as well at times.

To your point, that is a pretty average rotation in terms of height. But I don't think that is a problem. We need someone who has some chance of marking 5'7" Hidalgo, not someone who can shoot over 5'9" Mair (dook).

The bigger picture here is this team once again has elite depth, and upped the versatility. CB wants to move towards "positioners basketball." We are closer now than ever before. this is most beneficial on defense. When you have the freedom to zone, switch, hedge, drop, trap and fight through screens at any given time, that gives you a defensive versatility that stresses offenses. They have to prepare for and execute against all possibilities.

I think we have the players to play taller if the need requires it but we are also going to be a more physically strong team.

UConn and Texas gaining an advantage by attacking Elina and Lanie physically was not about their height.

If you want to out physical a team and hope the fouls are not called you think your team will gain advantage
in the bump and hack game by being the more physical stronger player.

Last season Nivar and Harris could play that role for us but after Kelly went out with injury they were the only two players on the roster who could play that game and Indya was the only one with ball handling skills to get the ball into the frontcourt.

Schaffer and Geno took advantage of us. This season we will be atronger. JMO.

I agree that Elina and especially Grant struggled against top defenders. But I think it had more to do with quickness and ball handling skills. They were more than fine against 97% of D1 teams, but when you play Hidalgo, UConn, or TX suddenly you need to be elite.

5'10" Elina could drive at an elite level but she could not break a press nor dribble and initiate an offense at an elite level.

5'9" Grant is as fundamentally sound a player as you will find, but there became a point that her athletic limit was reached against elite athletes (similar to Ustby, and just about any player who does not have A-A in their bio; I am not singling out these two as deficient).

Kelly has arguably been our best ball handler versus great defense. While her offensive efficiency may suffer, she has always been able to hold onto the ball. We will have that again if she can stay healthy. We will not know about Harpring until she faces elite college players.

The defenders we are talking about here were 5'7" Hidalgo & 5'8" de Jesus for ND, 5'6" Harmon & 6'0" Lee of TX, and 5'9" Arnold, 5'10" Shade & 5'11" Fudd of UConn. They were not all that tall, not even super strong. They just had an athleticism and versatility we could not match.

I wish we had the height of each player listed on the roster page.
it is an absurdity not to have that. Seems likely most important FACT re any player, in these days of fluff and few facts. Program supporters need to grow up and face positives and present limitations. As I'd notch below big-time, entire program including media criers. Here maybe even go out on a limb and note which players will actually compete for more than 5-10 minutes per game. Reality helps gather of support. Mirrors only work on web sites, not on the court. case in point: will Thomas be worth a damn, ever? Several on the list will never play when importance of a game.

Excellent, hope you are correct. She sounds like a real player, somebody to go to. I like your comment re playing thru contact and making bunnies. Carolina to me has been unwatchable re missing bunnies. At the rim, make the shot. If you are not fouled, you make 80-90%. If she is real, pay her, let her shine, bring her back for a 5th year. Pay her.

I have seen very little of Crooks. Pics tell me she got to be slow. Big and slow. Akot looks kinda big, not unnecessarily big, and not slow. Also the good post handle.
