Seriously? That kinda surprises me.
I've consistently felt that our recruiting has overemphasized "living the right life." That may not be based on anything real--I can't point to anyone we've lost because of it. I just wonder if Tom would've recruited Alger (Gable said he'd take 10 of him), or Randy Lewis, or Brad Penrith, or, hell, even 18-year-old Tom & Terry, who weren't exactly choir boys.

AJ is far beyond any of them at this point, but I wasn't a hard "no" until the latest incident. That's just me.

I agree 100% with the overemphasis on living the life. But I mostly saw it as overlooking kids who, “culturally, or morally,” didn’t fit into their desired mold, rather than legally. (More looking at those listening to rap records, rather than collecting legal raps and records.)

If Alger or Lewis were on this years team, the whole Iowa fan base would be sick. You guys would have found out al the things they did because of social media and they would be having a harder time finding a home than AJ is.

Not that simple. And also it is.

Tom's teams have had plenty of partiers (Perry, Stoll, Warner). Hell, we almost lost Kemdawg because guys were partiers.

But if you aren't recruiting guys who live life right, you're not going to be successful anymore. Carl's guys are mostly choir boys. Guys who literally never drank a drop in college. Of course he's had his fair share (Ruth, Altons, Cenzo, Marky) of guys that definitely partook, but the culture has to be one where that is the outlier. The team Carl has now? That DT has now? Choir boys. The guy who wasn't? Lockett - and look where that got him.

The sport has changed. If you're not "living the right life," you're going to get passed or hurt. Tom's bigger issue in recruiting was not recruiting talented guys who could get to legs. He's obviously done a better job of that in spurts, but you can't just recruit guys that wrestle like Toms and Terrys and Metcalfs anymore. Carl showed that in 2011 and Tom didn't adjust for a long time. What Tom didn't recognize is that him and his brother are literal super heros. Freakish strength, ability to train hard and not get hurt and really good athletes. Hell, Metcalf had to make a decision early in life between gymnastics and wrestling. he was an athlete.

And seriously, anyone who thought AJ could keep it together didn't have to look too far to know that that wasn't possible. John freaking Smith let him go. And this is a guy that didn't care what you did as long as you showed up to practice. The kid has never made good decisions, and more importantly, not in a SINGLE INSTANCE, did he show any contrition. Never accepted responsibility. Those kinds of people don't change.

Curious if you mean that you think TNT may stay away from kids who listen to rap? Because if that is the case, I think the roster indicates otherwise. And if you mean it as a shot at Williams not being on the tournament roster, well, just because you may belong to a protected class does not mean you can't be disciplined when disciplined may well be deserved.

They were hardly the only two and a bigger name than them would have caught some of it too. Boys will be boys. ;) Or who knows, maybe because it would have been so out in the open behaviors would have been different. Much different time.

I find it amazing after all his past billshut…..that a high speed chase in Nebraska is finally a bridge too far for some people
He had a relatively "clean" stretch so many thought (hoped) maybe the recklessness was behind him. I was on the hoped side. Clearly he hasn't learned which is why he'll likely end up watching from the sidelines going forward.

Perry was the worst in college. I was friends with a ton of the guys and Perry showed up at times and it always was stone faced and pissed at everyone.

I remember how the wrestling team would act at RT Grunts in the late 80s early 90s. Multiple assaults and very bad behavior. People can get phucked with their holy rolling. In fact Im The guy that gave Tom Ryan his famous black eye at Grunts in 1990.

Nope. No shots being taken due to ethnicity. More lifestyle.

Clean stretch or lucky-to-have-not-gotten-caught stretch?

And what about Nebraska not wanting him back? Does that sound, “clean?”

He had an @uiowa.edu email address prior to the double birds incident. I’m not certain but I would bet that he would have been enrolled at Iowa for the spring semester had the double birds not happened.
Correct. He was listed in the student directory (as was Anthony) as he was already accepted by the University by that point.

Potential more infractions is underselling it quite a bit.

2nd time he’s been accused of assaulting a female. Scumbag. At some point there’s not two sides to every story.

Even Liberty Lover has got to be out now. I’m sure Corby will stay neutral though.
"Neutral"? I'd hardly refer to someone who says AJ's accusers are all liars and make stuff up as "neutral".

To be fair here, are you not at least entertained? Isn't that the purpose of fandom? I'd take AJ in IC at 197 next season in a heartbeat, I think life would be more enjoyable than the alternative. Would you rather see AJ beat Barr and double bird Carl, or watch Harvey dnq? Give me the former.

Harvey DNQ. Every day. All day. No interest in watching the equivalent of human excrement represent the black and gold. Not entertaining, and sure as hell not enjoyable. It's gross. To say nothing about the danger he poses to other students. And all that just to still be battling for 3rd or worse? FFS.

(Also, Harvey isn't going to DNQ.)

Weren't you an apologist for his first round of similar allegations?
Apologist I wouldn't say that but I'm always innocent until proven guilty. And that one I knew lots of information this one I don't know much. We will see what the courts decide

Care to share what is so "amazing" about that? Don't get me wrong...I think it is completely sad that so many believed in him, but don't see the issue here. He was supposed to keep his nose clean. Nebraska even gave him a mulligan, just 3 months into his time there. So, I don't get how yet another problem is some sort of issue.

Probably more lucky to not have been caught but who knows. I don't really care what Nebby did or didn't want... they certainly didn't mind looking the other way with AJ when almost no one else would, just as that entire athletic dept has for decades.
The reality is if we weren't finishing 3rd-5th it likely wouldn't have gotten the traction it did. Desperate times and all that.

I remember a video at the end of the season where he got engaged at an airport. Wonder if that was a joke. Girl was plain Jane, not like someone he would be with, unless she can provide stable income and benefits for him? If the charge from the woman is proven true, she needs to exit fast. Maybe Angelo has learned lessons from watching older brothers. Glad we got the best one. Had hope for other two, but just can’t stop shooting themselves in the foot. Not sure if Anthony has had any trouble other than making up credits he didn’t do in that year off.
