The population on the Louisiana side of the Mississippi River has increased significantly over the past 10 years. I don't really know how I feel about it. I think native species that have been threatened coming back is a good thing, but it is also inherently dangerous for them to be in such close proximty to human populations. Aside from that, they can be a nuscance. Louisiana did have an small and brief lottery hunt for black bears this past year.

I don't think Black Bears are inherently dangerous. They avoid humans as much as possible and it is unusual for them to attack. Even the mama bears are intelligent enough to keep her cubs away.

Yeah, they have the ability to 17 you up real quick, but fortunately for us (and them) it’s extremely rare for them to exercise it.
