It was sort of kind of a pick play on the GK, which apparently was made a pre-tournament point of emphasis. So it might not have been called that way in the past, but is being scrutinized now. I haven’t seen good replays on it to tell if that’s how it really went down.

I thought the foul on German was the correct call. You can’t wrap your arms around the goalie. But I am not liking the strategies of these teams parking the bus defensively in order to go to PKs. I want to see the top 10 teams in the World battle it out and play real soccer.

It would be lunacy for a team like Paraguay to open it up against a higher level team. Look what the US did to them.

It's on the opposition to figure out the key to unlock the low block.

Good strategy by Paraguay. Congrats to them. Poor job by Naggelsman and Germany.

I get it. I just don’t like the games. Parking the bus is boring. It’s the only strategy for Paraguay but this is the problem with expanding the field in the first place. Too many teams parking the bus.

Overwhelmingly the best part of the World Cup has been people coming together from across the globe. It has restored our collective faith in people. It wasn't coregraphed "Fan Festivals" it was fans experiences driven by passion for futbol. It was a giant expression of love. We're more alike than we care to admit. A beautiful thing. As a typical American that always thought soccer was stupid. A few things I now appreciate about it.

- The players hustle 100% of the time
- the game scheduled to start at 8pm actually starts at 8pm and doesn’t have 10 minutes of nonsensical, generic word salad preludes
- the Bosnia coach was in full suit and tie, not sure if that’s common
- there’s basically no stoppage of play, keeps it intriguing

a few things that still don’t appeal to me

- it shouldn’t take a minor miracle to score a goal
- the amount of players that still roll around on the ground after minor contact is ridiculous
- as a non observer I have no idea what the offsides rule was. Apparently the white line for the box isn’t the threshold?

Glad you appreciate some of the nuance of the sport. It is a skill and endurance game. In addition to the constant motion, you can’t sub out and return. Some of the “injuries” are designed to give teams a quick blow.

I have not seen that double-breasted look before tonight!.

I’ll take the trade-off of fewer scores with continuous play versus the mind numbing number of time outs and stoppages in other sports.

It is amazing that this game was two hours from end-to-end including halftime. Football and Baseball games 3 1/2 hours.

Gutsy US win playing with 10 after the red card. Should be a good game vs Belgium.

I continue to enjoy the National pride being displayed by fans from the various countries and how it’s being celebrated by Americans. Good stuff.

WHAT? Why would a soccer game be longer than 2 hrs? it’s literally 90 mins and the clock doesn’t stop lol

That was my point for those that are critical of the game. It’s non-stop action that has limited breaks. Imagine a 2-1 pitchers dual that takes only two hours.

we’ve gotten conditioned to 3 1/2 - 4 hour 60 minute games.

The USMT is showing incredible maturity in how they approach things and how they dealt with an extremely questionable red card. Playing without Balogen is going to make beating Belgium that much harder. He's their spark and teams have a hard time covering him. But most of the players interviewed seem to be focusing on the task at hand and keeping their cool. It's impressive how focused they are and how they responded. Gotta give a lot of credit to their coach and how he has them handling things.

Idk what sport you’ve been watching but most baseball games are finishing a lot quicker due to the pitch clock

I don't know the details of how these calls are made but the explanation by the rules analyst (theoretically independent) endorsed the decision. But nothing will soothe the heartbreak of Croatia and its fans.

Apparently a sensor in the ball indicated a slight touch but idk... the trajectory and rotation of the ball don't appear to change going past the player's head. Brutal way for Croatia to lose.

I was at SoFi Stadium for the Spain V Austria match. Finally, we had a team that didn’t park the bus against Spain. Not surprisingly, Spain had its best game. Lamine Yamal is slowly rounding into shape. Dani Olmo starting makes a lot of difference in the fluidity of the offense. Cucurella continues his outstanding play. Should be a great game against Portugal

btw, SoFi is a spectacular stadium. I reallly loved it there. Atlanta and SoFi were very impressive. Blows away the Meadowlands.
