It’s a Mississippi thing. When everyone else constantly says we’re the worst state, people grow up believing that. You expect bad **** to happen. The entire state needs a culture change. I think it’s happening but won’t be overnight. Anyone who’s done business or worked in Mississippi and then in other areas has probably experienced the major cultural difference. I know I have.

OM is a little different because they have so many out of state students and alumni. Has a big impact on their attitude and culture.

But it’s why you can bring in an outsider like Mullen, Oak, Kiffin and they can rally the fanbase. Because they have a completely different attitude about winning and makes people believe they can win. At least until we drag them down (there’s my Mississippi pessimism coming out)

I agree with this but even the Ole Miss folks from in-state act a little different than MSU. And this isn't 100% across the board, but yeah seems they have a little more confidence than we do. Either way, I thought all this was changing back during 2021. I saw Noodle Arm carry the new MS flag out for the opening game and I was like, hey, things are looking up. TateR had been doing a good job, so I was like maybe this will start the Sip's renaissance. 5 years later, nope. Still here, arguing about data centers and school scores.

One comment.....MSU baseball doesn't operate in this sphere. And OC is not an outsider with a chip on his shoulder. We act like blue bloods in baseball and OC is just a damn good coach. We had started getting a little of that poor lil moo stuff when Templetoes let McMahon go and hired Polk back for cheap, but thankfully Byrne and Cohen broke up that club.

11-15 over a 3 year stretch in SEC play? Sign me up for that right now!!!

That's winning 42% in conference then. Going to 9 conference games soon means you're ok w/ going 4-5 (44%) in conference each season. That also means you must go undefeated in 3 OOC games to reach 7-5 and the Mayonnaise or Gasparilla bowl. Lose to a Minnesota, an AZ St, a Toledo, and slip and lose in one of your 4 conference wins and you're at 5-7 and home for the Holidays. Mediocrity at its best..............

90% of the posters on this board complained about Leach non stop. The 4 or 5 guys that were optimistic about his teams were constantly attacked on here. Run da bawl mo. And yes a mobile QB would have been nice but we won 9 games. Reckon when that will happen again ??
Yep, I was one of the 4 or 5.

I'm all in for Lebby this season. I want to see him win the close games this year and take us to a better bowl game. I asked a friend of mine that has always been more positive than I am about State sports how he did it. He said it's simple. He said if he went the negative route he'd turn into a miserable b*stard and he preferred not to do that

I was behind him the first two seasons but, he totally 100% lost me after last season.

Im 100% behind him. He made some bad hires but at least he shows he doesn't mind firing people and rearranging the deck chairs. Not sure he is smart enough to get it right in this league. All of the "offensive chops" praise he gets credited with I figured were due more to his head coaches than him. I hope he gets 7 this year but not sure where they are coming from. I would feel better if the DL/OL crootin improved

My causes for pessimism in no particular order:

Stupidity from State leadership- see Keenum, Cohen, Selmon, Lonnie Tinkle.

Traitors- see Cohen, Strickland.

NCAA being toothless against rampant corruption and rule-breaking- see Hugh Freeze (×2), Bruce Pearl, Ed Orgeron, Will Wade, Les Miles, Philip Fulmer, Nick Saban, need I go on?

Transfer portal and NIL making it hard to care about the players, I root for the jersey now.

NCAA being hypocritical with their eligibility ********- see Geor'quarius Spivey.

Life- see being mid 40s, having a kid, and shifting priorities just to keep afloat.

Money- see everybody wanting more and more, prices skyrocketing, and the fanbase being expected to directly fund the rosters, with the added ******** sundae that the mule you rent today will likely be pulling the neighbors plow next year.

History- see the last several years of football, the precipitous drop off in football post-Mullen and baseball post 2021 though that appears to be trending back up.

Apathy- see all of the above.

Well to be fair.. apparently there is a required freshman course at UM that concentrates on how great everything is in Lafayette county, how to boast how well known your previously unknown father is, and how to properly add a few syllables to Ahhhxxfurrrrd. MSU doesn't have that.

Compared to the past 3 years, the previous 3 years of 11-15 were Utopian pleasure. When your schedule every year has

Texas, Oklahoma, Texasa&m, LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, or Tennessee, you ain’t averaging 5 SEC wins.

If they scheduled like the NFL with the lower end teams getting easier schedules, State might be able to get to that 5 win plateau in the years they have 5 SEC home games.
Example:
Vandy, South Carolina, Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Florida might give State a chance at 5 conference wins.
