We do end up firing lebby. Who would you want? Would everyone be happy if we hired GJ kinne?
I'm hoping for a winning season and an extension for Lebby. I don't want to get the cart before the horse. If the OL is improving as Taylor says and our defense is much improved (it won't take much) then we will be competitive.

We should all be hoping for this. It seems unlikely but that would by far be the best thing for Mississippi State football.

We were actually competitive enough to have a winning record last year so I think the difference will be whether we see better head coaching decisions in tight games.
^^^ The Team was competitive enough to win 6 or 7 games last year, but the head coach wasn’t smart enough to. There is only one person to blame for 2 of those come from ahead losses!

I have said it many times on here, and to friends I believe Lebby will be a good coach one day. I just did not think there was time for it to happen at State. I think in the ole days you got 4–5 years to turn a program around from the place that we were. But now it is more like 2.

I laughed at Mr.77, and I am beginning to see now how I might have been wrong the light might be coming. I think at 6–6 you should bring him back. Let’s all be honest, we all have our eggs in the KT basket. If he balls to potential with a solid defense, the walls come off this place.

Shoot me if you want, but let's give Mullen a redo. Pay him, and maybe even contractually make him not be jog-shopping. I only donate close to the minimum to the BDC now, but might could do a little better if we can hire him. As I've said before, he peaked at Florida, notably a higher ranked school than we are. That's not a lateral move. He'll never coach at Alabama or Ohio State so there's no need for him to be seeking such places. But we're a lot higher than UNLV so it's a huge step back up. He got us started toward a highly respectable team and he can do it again.

Starkville's a nice small town. He'll be the number one citizen there, and one of the highest paid individuals in the whole state. The only negative is that it's hot as hades in the summer that bleeds into football season. He needs to lobby for night games early on.

And no shorts allowed on game day sidelines for the HC, not matter how hot it is.

Arizona State, Tennessee, Texas, Florida, Wake Forest. All of those should have been wins except for stupidity at the top. We got ASU, lost the rest. If he wins against Texas and Florida, our outlook into this season is completely different. But we didn't and any pretense of hope is gone.

This is confusing has-the-fire Mullen with lazy Mullen. We would get the latter. Pass.

I think the guy at UNLV shows a lot of promise. If we can't get him we should find an offensive guy that's a little bit of a prick. That seems to work well for us.

The good news you have a competent coach running the defense (Arnett) and you now have an adult in the room to help with in-game management decisions (Montgomery) - two things Mullen had when he first started coaching (Torbush/Koenning) and something Zac Selmon should've insisted on with Lebby.

We would not get young Mullen with fire. But Mullen had us in pretty good shape when he left and that was after he was off his peak intensity at state. He did still have the golden ring he was reaching for then, so that probably helped him refocus, but he seems to be operating at least at that level at UNLV, so I'm not sure we'd get lazy Mullen. Definitely agree that it's a risk and not saying that's who I want to hire next, but I'd think he'd be a strong candidate. The thing about him is he either gets us a discount for a QB because they know he can make them look good, or at worst he makes it work with QBs that are limited enough other people don't want them. h
