Gaudi, the genius who designed Sagrada Família, was based in Barcelona and there are a goodly number of his designs out there. We saw Casa Mila, loved it. I have heard wonderful things about Casa Batllo, we only walked past it, damn impressive. Gaudi was a genius. You owe it to yourself to see his stuff, take some time to study it beforehand.

Missed that too. My excuse, such as it may be: I didn’t quite comprehend what an opportunity it was to be in Gaudi’s city. For example, I’m big time on art museums and couldn’t pass up the Picasso Museum in Barcelona but realize now that the time would have been better spent visiting Casa Batllo.

Of all our trips, we loved Spain the most. There is not a more beautiful college town than Salamanca.

Only 3 days?

Definitely Montserrat of the two you listed. It does take a full day, but it's a great trip, and amazing to see. And like you, I'm not Catholic.

As others have mentioned, Sagrada Familia Basilica is well worth a visit, and you can do that in half a day. Just make sure to purchase timed tickets in advance of your trip.

Park Güell is another site in the city I would recommend.

If your'e interested in Montjuïc, I would recommend the fountain and light show at night. (Also called the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc.) That only takes a few hours, but is quite impressive.

Do be forewarned about the pickpockets. They are very active in the city. Phones and wallets are their main focus.

If you're looking for something a little different, I'd recommend this. We took a trip on a motorcycle with a sidecar. The guides ride the motorcycles, while the tourist sits in the sidecar. They have some type of microphone system so that you communicate with the guide. You'd have to search for it -- I have no idea what it was called/who ran it. We did it the first morning we were in Barcelona, and used it to figure out places to visit that we hadn't already scheduled.

Have fun. It's a great place to visit.
All of the above. We went in March. I also recommend a golf cart tour of the city. We did a walking Tapas tour one night. We were able to see a Barca game which was awesome.....

Gaudi is on my bucket list, but the ones that I am most interested in are some of the ones he designed for Estubi Güell. Park Güell, Church of Colònia Güell & Pavilions Güell.

Had a great vacay in Spain!

The Barcelona highlight was definitely Sagrada Familia! Wow! What an architectural wonder! My jaw dropped when we entered the basilica! The outside was phenomenal as well. 100 years and still building! The #1 site in Spain in my opinion!

Park Guell was cool as well. Antoni Gaudi was a genius.

The trip to Monteserrat was worth it. Really beautiful countryside. The Black Madonna was striking.

Costa Brava was outstanding! Highly recommend making the effort to get there if you are planning a trip to Spain.

Great seafood in quaint restaurants right along the Mediterranean. Beautiful towns. Classic European architecture. We stayed in Palafrugell which was wonderful. Recommend visiting Tosa De Mar another beautiful town along the Mediterranean.

Madrid was our final stop and...well it was HOT! As in 103 degrees.

The architecture in Madrid was beautiful. Really loved seeing the European style buildings which seemingly were everywhere and dominated the city architecture style.

The Spanish palace was pretty cool and we toured Bernabeu stadium where Real Madrid plays. The Reina Sofia museum was worth the visit, many Picasso and Dali paintings to gaze at.

We didn't go to Toledo while in Madrid because it was just too hot.

The food in all our stays was top notch! The paella was, of course, excellent. Seafood was really, really good. We had Cochinillo (roasted suckling pig) in Madrid and it was excellent! Great wine!

All in all, an A+ trip and I highly recommend a vacation to Espana!
