I wonder how many people bought his lifetime membership on TBK.
Stopped just short thank God but at that time I’m sure I was tempted with the information vacuum in UK sports news combined with the message board/blog boom, and any and all Billy G recruiting “news.” What an abject fraud. The new people who weren’t around for that need to be warned as it seems to be making an attempted comeback. There’s an old saying…something about fool me once shame on you, fool me twice…

"not all whiff's are whiff's".

Pope has taken his lumps and there is no doubting that but calling every single recruit they've had contact with for them to go somewhere else a whiff is pretty irrational. Common sense will tell you that if this staff cast a wide net and contacts 70 players that it's impossible for them to sign every single one.

Some other issues with the "whiff" moniker has been the other fan bases immigrating over here to throw gas on the flames. Add that with the irrational side of the fanbase that cried about how horrible Collins was as a prospect, only to cry when Pope whiffed on a 5 star. That with the addition of the thousand of experts that pop over night to give us intel and the desire for people wanting to trust the positive side of recruiting only to be let down and looking at Pope to take their sadness out on.

Obviously the Stokes recruitment was a debacle and cost us some high school talent and at least one transfer. But as Maggard said last night, Freeman wasn't a whiff, he tried to hold UK hostage and was told to kick rocks. Pope decided to get McBride for 1/5 of the cost and most likely to get at least 80% of Freemans production and have money for Milan. I believe that to be the case with several transfer recruit "whiffs" and believe its smart business. Not all whiffs are one sided.

I love how they are handling the Kusturica recruitment. They have made their offer and held their ground. If reports are true they will not budge on the 2nd yr guarantee. I would love to have the kid but also would consider it a cluster if he came here and played with minute limitations and then bolted for a bigger check next year.

Pope has a lot of issues but the one I never saw coming was public relations. The McBride and Zoom announcements were clusters. Two guys the really wanted and went after, looked at as leftovers because they were announced after Stokes and Wright misses. I believe we would have been pumped to have both if the pr wasn't so bad around them. Add that with the fact that for a guy who talks a lot, Pope really has a tight lip when it comes to recruiting info that gets shared. He has to learn that in this day in age at a place like UK, you control the narrative or the narrative will control you.

TBK wasn’t a scam. It was legit. Easily the best era of insider news that’s ever been. He was inside 100% and had info down to the detail. He also was “wrong on purpose” and we had several who were told he was going to do that before he did it, and sure enough, the info was taken by Matt Jones and ran with. But I can give you countless examples of his information being on the money in ways it can only be when you’re plugged in.

Having said that, he’s just awful. One of the worst personalities I’ve ever been around. Even friends of his on the board didn’t like him. And he still took lifetime memberships when he knew he was months from shutting down. Weeks even.

Both are true.

He comes in a bit after the video starts. At about the 27 min mark.
Right. I didn't watch it far enough into it. a couple of comments, first off Maggard has gained a lot of weight it appears and secondly I agree with pretty much everything both of those guys were saying Marc's got a good basketball mind in my opinion.

This Youtube Channel is gold. I've never heard Maggard speak before.

I don’t believe they offered scheyer I think May was their guy. Cuban has a relationship with May who is a former Hoosier both May and Cuban. That’s all there is to it. Scheyer played it up probably hoping for a new contract.

I don’t know how he didn’t go to jail for that mess. If that’s not fraud, I don’t know what is.
Probably can hide behind the business going under. He honored the agreement for the life of the business would be my guess. Anyone who bought it is silly anyway. It’s one thing to save money over a year or something , but another to think that it would last decades or something.

There was at least good information back in those days to make the membership worthwhile. Now even good information these days isn’t worth much. It changes hourly, a guarantee is only good until their next visit and agreement.

Old age gets us all. Testerone slows and activity slows for many. There are hardcore people in great shape obviously, but it’s hard with any ailments like a bad back or knees, etc.. I miss the frost.

Also, Freeman has missed about as many games as he’s played in his college career with injuries. I was skeptical about paying him big money anyway.

Exactly! Last yrs roster problem was it was built on hope. Hoping Lowe could fix his shot, hoping guys could take that next step, hoping JW was healthy. For year 3 Pope needs to know what he has and not hope a injury prone player gets healthy.

I remember a little about the controversy regarding Maggard's recruiting information business, and if he duped folks that tells you all you need to know about a guy's character. But it's pretty easy to tell from listening to some of that podcast that Maggard is a guy that knows basketball, makes really good points, and to me is an interesting listen regarding basketball. That has nothing to do with his character. He could be the worst person in the world (cough cough Bobby Knight) and still know basketball. Just my opinion, of course; and I'm sorry for any folks he may have wronged.

There’s definitely reason to make him a target but True Blue was a good forum. If something like that was started today, with active mods, RR would die a quick death.

To be balanced, he did have some good scoops like DeAndre Liggins who was a top 13 player in the country. UK was not leading for him, but Gillespie got him in for a visit, and Marc Maggard posted that he was blown away on his visit and was going to commit the day before he committed.

Probably his best scoop was when most people thought Marquis Teague was going to Louisville with the connections they had, and he said Teague was going to commit to UK and had even arranged a bus leaving from Lexington the next morning to take fans who wanted to see his announcement at his Indianapolis High School. No one else called this.

It was, and I get it. I don’t hate on people for obviously thinking it was bs. However, those of us that were there and were part of it know it was actually 100% true. He told us on the private board and I spoke to NJGreg about it in private who was a mod. Told me directly and Mark said he was going to drop bad info so MJ would run with it. He did it, and sure enough MJ ran with it and I believe posted it. It was hilarious. Then of course rafter say his say he was wrong on purpose and used it to the fullest extent of the law, which I get.

But it did happen, plenty of us saw it, and I’m sure anyone here that was there will fully corroborate that is did happen. It’s not even a debate, it 100% happened.

@DKersey I know is one that knows.
