Seeking the All Knowing wisdom of the AKB for restaurant recommendations in Honolulu/Waikiki for a party of 12 (six kids). I lived here for six years in my youth (‘77-‘83) but it’s changed a lot - we are staying in Waikiki and have a couple of reservations already (Tommy Bahama, Duke’s) but looking for any firsthand experiences at other places that offer local cuisine and stuff kids might like.

We’re here now for two weeks. Thanks in advance!!

It’s been a while, Midnighter, but if any of the Roy’s fine dining establishments still exist that’s where I’d go. Phenomenal meal, service, etc.

For authentic Hawaiian food, try:
1. Helena's (1240 N. School Street, Honolulu)
2. Highway Inn (680 Ala Moana Blvd, #105, Honolulu)

Great combo of seafood and Korean dishes:
- Kyung's Seafood (1269 S. King Street, Honolulu)

Price isn't an issue:
- Miro Kaimuki (3446 Waialae Avenue, Honolulu)

Sushi:
1. Sushi Izakaya Gaku (1329 S. King Street, Honolulu)
2. Mitch's Fish Market and Sushi Bar (524 Ohohia Street, Honolulu)
(I loved Mitch's, but for the size of your group, you'd have to check if they could handle that many. It's not very big.)

Non-specific:
Stix Asia Food Hall (2250 Kalakaua Avenue, Lower Level 100, Honolulu)
- this is a collection of restaurants. Japanese cuisine seems to be a mainstay

Pro Tip: we took the Waikiki Trolley to Diamond Head this morning and it was wonderful; basically got a Hawaiian history lesson and beautiful views en route to the hike. But, best part was with your ticket, Roy’s in Honolulu offers a draft beer and mahi mahi taco for $7 and it’s two per person per ticket. A draft beer alone is $8. Taco was incredible and they have a Japanese style pilsner that matches perfectly. Definitely recommend!
