Someone took a knife to that pool. Did 350 feet. That's taller than the Empire State building. Laid end to end that knife would almost reach to the moon. You ever look at a paperclip? A marker? Nobody knows markers better than me. I drove inside the pool. 360 feet. Nobody said it was possible. But the extra 10 feet were because they stole the election from me. You think Joe could do that? 10 feet. On top of 350 feet. On top of. Getting on top of stuff. I like to get on top of stuff. Where's my granddaughter?

Obama had a funny interview recently with Matt Barnes in which he was asked why he thought Trump was so obsessed with him. Of course, Obama’s remarks, while lighthearted, were also subtle digs at Trump that would go completely over Trump’s head, which made it even funnier.

Politics aside, I had almost forgotten what it was like not having a feeble-minded geezer running the country.

It’s been almost a decade after all.

Out two party system ain’t doing America any favors.
It’s a ******* joke. And both parties have become so polarizing they have inspired the dregs of society to crawl out of the woodwork and clamor for attention and validation. Seriously. I miss the days in which you could have actual conversations with people who were reasonably well educated on political issues and current events.

Now, we have to wade through cesspools of illiterate drivel and obnoxious, puerile polemics from people who once had enough sense to stay out of political discussions. All of this because these detestable ne’er-do-wells have felt emboldened over the past ten years to flaunt how stupid and depraved they are because they somehow find Trump “relatable,” as if Trump is the type of chap to venture on over to their trailer, crack open a Natty Light, and start watching a NASCAR race with them. 🙄😝

What's the alternative? And if you say a viable third party, you have to explain 1) when that party is going to elect people to, basically, anything and 2) how that works with the Electoral College in presidential elections..
I don’t have a viable alternative. But the status quo is NOT doing a service to our country And anyone who thinks it is … is a fool.

Seriously?

You get too bored at cheating at Maptap and Wordle or something?
LOL... you took me asking you what your solution was as defending the two-party system. As I have stated multiple times, it's a built-in feature of our government. There's no "defending" it, it's like defending day following night. There's a reason we have two parties and only two parties. If you want something different, you're gonna have to rewrite the Constitution. Outside of that, continually railing against it is a waste of time.

You come on a message board where we gather to discuss these things (and have our old man yelling at the clouds moment) and say don’t bother? We are all mostly wasting our breath whether dem, GOP or indy. But occasionally in the back and forth I learn something. Occasionally in the back and forth I teach something. If it is a waste of your time, why post?

Now back to our regularly scheduled program:

The system is antiquated. I agree it appears to be built in, so it likely cannot be fixed without a constitutional amendment - which is why I said there is no current viable option. We both know a constitutional amendment is close to impossible because it is too difficult to get consensus. Hell, we couldn’t get the ERA amendment passed over several decades and that should have been a no brainer.

But that doesn’t mean the system is effectively serving Americans and that we shouldn’t at least try to think of alternatives…even if I don’t have one currently.

Here's a start...a nationwide ban on partisan gerrymandering. Segregating voters into right versus left is what gives us representatives who act in terms of right versus left. A non-partisan, court-drawn map gave NC a much more moderate 7-7 delegation in DC. Representatives had to appeal to a larger centrist population. Then SCOTUS blew that up. Now we're back to 11-3 GOP extreme right group. 🤷‍♂️

Right now it seems like a lot of Democrat voters are preferring the progressive candidates to the traditional corporate democrats and those establishment democrats are starting to freak out.

Sure, I have proposed that many a time too. But since it seems clear the SC is totally fine with gerrymandering I doubt such bans would truly hold.

Gerrymandering, citizens united, lack of term limits et al make it very difficult to see a path forward without a constitutional overhaul.

This is rich coming from the party that anointed Kamala, the worst candidate in US political history.

Two party system is not going to change during our lifetime. I suggest everyone try to make change within the current system.

Democrats deserve a lot of blame. They didn’t operate within the system last time and everyone paid as a result. They did.not.hold.a.primary.

It’s kind of Rich that people are complaining about a system that they didn’t even use.
