Arkansas is the favorite it seems.
Has UK ever been the favorite for any elite high school kid besides Hampton and Moreno? I remember that even with Jasper UNC was the favorite for a long time.

Such a strange feeling after the Cal years, this riding shotgun on 95% of high school recruitments.

It would be unprecedented (for Pope) if he somehow recruits the #1, #2, & #6 freshman recruits - and then goes out to kill it in the portal ? Would be FAR beyond what I thought we could see from him by year 4. That's solid, top notch recruiting.

Add in Crawford to "The Closer" and we're cooking....
I hope he does…But he still needs to win this year! No flame outs!

Are you kidding me? Kentucky definitely has had high rankings recruits in basketball before. That’s like a main stay of our program.
Did you not drink your second cup of coffee yet? Read my post again and then read your response and it might make more sense this time. Add some cream and sugar. Key words: after the Cal years.

Sad that our “insiders” are so untrustworthy these days
He’s far from an insider. Just posts things he sees elsewhere as his own a lot. Then deletes what he gets wrong. He used that same GIF about kusturica after dusty may went to nba then deleted it.

Really do - felt like they had no plan other than retaining Wright. Lot's of scraps, Wright and Branch (who looks so young). The B12 looks down this year as most of the teams have taken a step back.

Kansas - lost entire starting 5, including Bidunga, Tiller, DP. Step back.
Arizona - lost Bradley, Peat, Burries. Step back.
Houston - lost everyone but Tugler.
Iowa St - lost Tipsey, Jefferson, Milan. Step back.
Baylor - Carr, Tounde
BYU - discussed.

Down year there.

B10 has UM, Illinois, MSU that will be top 10, then a cliff.

ACC has Duke, Ville, Virginia.

SEC could be back there as best conference this year. Florida, Tenn, Arkansas, Kentucky.
The SEC will be loaded this year. Florida, Texas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Vandy and Arkansas could all start the year in the top 15.

B12 is going to be way down.

B10 will be good again as they'll have 3 of the top 6-7 teams in UM, MSU and Illinois, but there is a fairly sharp cliff after that.

SEC looks primed to represent this year as they have a number of very good teams. Don't forget that Missouri should be up there as well, as they have some good recruits coming in, as well as Tiller from KU.

The BE should be better this year as they had some solid portal grabs. Nova should be back with a good team, St John's looks loaded and UConn is UConn. I could see PC and Marquette being very good.

All said, the SEC looks very good.

Like this kid
Not the greatest athlete but a basketball player with pretty good offense

This is the class where Pope needs to land an elite player. He told us he learned from the Stokes failure and misread.

Let's see if that's actually true. Pope himself said that in order to coach at Kentucky, you need to be able to recruit elite high school players. Deflecting to the "well he lands good portal classes" is not even the final measurement that he uses himself.

IMO he needs to exit the summer with another top 25 prospect. he needs to put the "cant recruit" stuff to bed so its not a distraction when the season picks up. I'm not sure he will ever get a top 5 or top 10 guy.....but he should be able to land top 25 guys.

need 3 high quality freshman combined with 3 or 4 returnees, then a top 5 portal class.

The 2027 and 2028 Basketball Recruiting Classes are stacking up to be the weakest in years. It is imperative that Pope lands at least one Stud in each class. As we go down the rankings, the class will not be as strong, so those 30-60 range prospects may not be like in the past.

The best player in either class just signed with Texas. If you look on 247, there are no 99's (Stokes and about 10 guys in this recent class) or 100s (Flagg, Bailey, Boozer, Peterson, AJD) anywhere.

It's interesting seeing Scheyer on Black. He already has 3 PGs on his roster and all could be back.

The top kids in these classes may want the program with a bit of development as most are not at all NBA ready. With 5/5, Euros, portal, the HS scene isn't going to be priority over the next couple years as it's not really a winning formula unless you keep them for 2 years. Even this upcoming class, having watched Bruce Branch and then seeing him play, kid doesn't look even slightly ready for the NBA. He's wispy. The only kids that really look it to me are Stokes, Holt and Smith.
