A fun Friday diversion...........

Buddy of mine and I were chatting... Our premise was this: If you had Elon level money (you're a trillionaire) and were a diehard State fan, how fun would it be to say "here's a BILLION dollars, let's not suck anymore".

We said "what if we both were multi multi billionaires and just said '17 it, we're going all in' a la Texas Tech, but on a Trillion dollar scale"
Key premises:
- You had a Trillion dollars, so giving several Billion to State, State athletics and investing in Starkville would be like buying a pack of hot dogs and a 6 pack of beer to a normal person
- You were a die hard State fan and doing this out of love for State and not some business venture
- You had endless free time and could help manage the money you were giving / help make decisions (but not micromanage)
- You had made your money through innovation / entrepreneurship rather than "I founded OnlyFans for my billions"

Obviously we would donate some billions to the actual school and Starkville too.

Fun ideas we had:
- Completely rebuild DWS to be the coolest / most state of the art college stadium. Since we are billionaires and we'd just pay cash for the build, ticket prices wouldn't be exorbitant. And we'd actually get a good price on the stadium since we're billionaires and would manage the crap out of the build.
- Set up a massive endowment of like $1B. Even at a modest 5% rate of return, that would be $50M per year... plenty to cover all the non-football sports (and be good at them)
- Buy an NFL roster every year and just be dominant
- Do whatever upgrades we needed to the baseball stadium to make it even better
- Build actual parking garages and hire someone that knows how to direct traffic to make gameday flows way better

Fun "what would people complain abouts" we came up with:
- Can't believe these rich guys are just giving all that money to college sports
- Complaining about billionaires
- Bathroom lines
- Logo choices

Feel free to add your own ideas with your Elon trillion dollars to make State great again... Happy Friday!

I would set up dozens of endowments.

- A dozen different full cost to attend endowments at MSU for students and a few student-athletes that compete in sports where they are still paying their own way.

- A dozen of the same for Tulane, since more of my money as an adult went to paying off student loans there than what I owed for MSU, despite not being the one who graduated from there.

- A free daycare program in Starkville for children up to 4 years old.

- A free before and after school program in Starkville for children 4 to 18 years old that offers safe and clean space to play, learn sports, receive tutoring, and eat.

- The same daycare program concept and before/after school program concept for kids in my school district/city.

- Modernize a few dozen school buildings in my school district/city.

- Donate to trail advocacy groups around the country to help them reach their funding goals and increase trail creation for recreational usage.
- Do a few thousand other self sustaining projects to improve the lives of youth and assist parents.

Hmm...I seem to have left MSU Football out of the mix.

First, I would buy up as much property as I could that is not recently redeveloped from say Yeates street to campus between hwy 182 and Hwy12. basically everywhere inside that square can get to most places on campus with a 2 mile bike ride or less. Probably take a few years to build up a reasonable position without paying ridiculous prices.

Then, for about 2.6B, you could generate 4,000 new scholarships that cover tuition, fees, food, and dorm. So 1,000 new students in each class that only have to cover transportation, and non food and housing costs. This would be separate from the existing ACT scholarships and not intended to bump them up, so maybe instead of 1,000 new scholarships you end up topping up the scholarships of lots of people that make a 29 or above on their ACT. Not sure how many new students that would generate versus just reducing the cost of some that would have attended anyway. But I'd start doing nice apartments and townhomes within that real estate block to try to create a better center of gravity around downtown.

For football, another $1B will endow about $40M a year to spend on the roster and/or coaching. So let's say 2.6B for scholarships, 1B for football, $399M to buy up properties, and $1M for the type of chicks that would double up on a guy like me, and you're at $4B spent and have something fun to do redeveloping all the property you have.

He ain't a trillionaire anymore.
Nevermind, his entire fortune is off the backs of us, American taxpayers.
F*ck that keto/pedo pos.
Im constantly amazed at folks on social media that think people like Elon and Jeff Bezos are just sitting around with Billions of dollars down at the local bank.....if either of them had to liquidate into cash it would probably be closer to half, probably even less than that....but why all the hate on billionaires? Elon Musk created wealth by creating VALUE to human civilization.....so did Bezos....and he has tried to give it away with a caveat....open transparency, and no one will take it with transparency....

"you could cure world hunger".....so how does that work? give it to the government first? Nah....I would rather see Elon become a multi trillionaire before seeing him give it to the government....

if you are going to hate the rich, hate folks like Paris HIton.....dont hate Elon...

but someone above said something about creating multiple endowments, that is what I would do too...

Prediction: Elon will leave this earth giving it all away, and none of it to the govt.

I’d dig a big lake on the south farm and start the first ever cross-country swimming and diving program. It would also provide the bass fishing team an on campus practice facility.

Hypocritical *** hole. You claim Elon's created value to human civilization, but 20 year old me got a lot more value out of videos made by Paris Hilton than I ever got out any of Elon's glorified golf carts.**

I bet Elon leaves it to his dozen children. And after seeing how rotten some huge endowment charities get, depending on how his children are, it may be better for people if its in their hands, even if the government takes a huge chunk, rather than sitting in a charity that eventually gets overtaken by self interested people.

Calm down.

To answer the question, I'd give about $2 Billion for NIL and say pay the NIL out of the capital gains made from investing it. At a measly 5%, that would generate about $100 million a year which would be plenty. I'd give another billion dollars for improvements/maintenance of facilities, and finally another billion for coaching salaries. $50 million a year from capital gains for each of those would hopefully make us competitive again.

My main goal would be investing in infrastructure across the state, starting with US 49 between Jackson and Hattiesburg which has interstate levels of traffic and desperately needs upgrading but that's out of the scope of this question.

Well aware it's not cash money, but still a fun hypothetical for Friday.

Anyone's "net worth" is only on paper anyways!

gIfr making us all look bad for his philanthropic work with his hypothetical money rather than making our sports teams good. Ha!

Yeah, I’m not saying that anyone should be forced to like the guy, but unless I’m mistaken, Elon was a South African immigrant that came to the U.S. and managed to revolutionize web based payments, push electrification ahead by decades while sharing the patents, and build a rocket company. All while generating hundreds of thousands of white collar jobs.

I don’t love the guy as a person, but there are more qualified people to hate in my opinion

Honestly I wouldn't want that much money, so I'd try to give as much of it away as quickly as possible.

To that end, if I had Elon's money, Congress would have to pass a law called the Stop Banner M Act (SBMA) to prevent Mississippi State from winning its fourth football national championship. I would make Texas Tech's Cody Campbell seem like a Walmart alum.

I would start building high speed rail connecting New Orleans to Memphis to Birmingham with the hub being adjacent to StaggerIn. GTR would have so many private jets, it would be like Dubai.

Instead of getting Nike or Jumpman to be official apparel provider, I would steal Nike's designers, create my own youth-oriented apparel and footwear company and make State it's only athletic brand partner.

I would buy Barstool and make Brandon Walker the president.

Also, Keenum would be out and State would be the top public university in 10 years. I would get my new buddy Elon to build a SpaceEx port near South Farm.

Just looking at the business side, he's mostly a fraud that bought his way into promising ventures and then took all the credit and profits. You do have to give some credit for being smart about where he parasitically took over. Tesla has been a classic monorail fraud for over a decade now. He's not responsible for ANY innovation at PayPal, Tesla, or SpaceX. Hell, PayPal was literally his competitor to his ****** product that bought him out just to clear the field. About all you can credit him for is hyping self driving at Tesla and hyping space profits (neither of which will ever happen).

On the personal side, he's a literal Nazi who is committed to spreading their beliefs. He's basically a James Bond villain. We're supposed to hate the guy, by every rule of society we all grew up on. The fascinating question is why so many dont see it. Its like there's some level of disbelief to where people think it couldn't be true in real life, therefore they reject reality.

To limit the benefit of this going to visiting fans, id keep ticket prices a little high but massively slash concessions....so long as you're in State gear. Non State attire gets you regular price. Visiting team attire gets you double. Spit optional.

Lots of entrepeneurs, particularly really successful ones, are basically fabulists. Steve Jobs was famous for stating what he wanted reality to be as fact. That doesn't mean the only skill that Jobs had and Musk has are as salesmen. For every fabulist that creates a company worth hundreds of billions of dollars, there are thousands more than suck up a round of venture capital before it's clear they don't have the other necessary talents to make it.

On the personal side, he's a literal Nazi who is committed to spreading their beliefs.
Ah yes, a Nazi. you know it's true because people wouldn't just go around making claims like that willy nilly.

He's basically a James Bond villain.
Bond Villain's were notorious about their support for free speech. I mean grante,d I think he really bought twitter because it was his favorite toy more so than wanting to save free speech, but he also has done more for free speech than just about any other individual now by helping flush all the coerced censorship out into the open.

We're supposed to hate the guy, by every rule of society we all grew up on. The fascinating question is why so many dont see it. Its like there's some level of disbelief to where people think it couldn't be true in real life, therefore they reject reality.
