The saga continues, now whose to blame for this mess is the issue
Looks like the blame game and accusations are starting to unfold
The TT "owner " claims a mutual agreement to part
The agent implies it was a TT decision
Also the agent says Cincinnati should be investigated
Cincinnati says STFU
The round he'll be taken is in question but article implies,>in first round: don't bet on it

This doesnt make a lot of sense.
He applied by the deadline.
But because they didnt expect anyone to actually apply they had no plan in place?

Then they cited his NCAA litigation. Which should have no bearing on anything.
If he didn't sue and just withdrew from school - he'd be eligible and they would have a draft?

The NFL basically said go away, come back tomorrow

>The league told Sorsby in a letter obtained by ESPN: "Your Petition -- filed three business days before the deadline, without any supporting information or documentation, and only after abandoning your recent litigation efforts to avoid NCAA sanctions -- does not provide a basis for the League to alter those plans."
The letter, signed by Larry Ferazani, the general counsel of the NFL management council adds that Sorsby's petition does not "demonstrate accountability for your conduct or indicate whether, or how, you would adhere to the League's rules and policies governing the integrity of competition.

"Instead, even after receiving notice of the NCAA's decision rescinding your college eligibility in May, you sought to avoid the consequences of that determination through litigation rather than accepting responsibility for your actions, and you pursued entry into the NFL only after abandoning those efforts."<

This just gets more and more ridiculous. The NFL gets in bed with the sports gambling industry and is now lecturing people about the integrity of the game. Hilarious.
Why? The sports gambling industry can co-exist with integrity of the game very easily. Leagues take $ from beer companies but don't let their players play/coach drunk, and/or have penalties when players get arrested for alcohol related offenses.

Nicole has had some good takes on the entire Sorsby Saga:

Sorsby’s lack of accountability — and his lack of remorse — have rubbed everyone the wrong way. It’s impossible to ignore Sorsby’s behavior since finding out the NCAA was investigating him for violations of its sports betting policy.

NFL general counsel Lawrence Ferazani to Brendan Sorsby: "By all accounts, you are a talented player with the potential for future success. We encourage you to focus on preparing for possible entry into the NFL through the 2027 NFL Annual Draft."

The entire letter:

I like the "June 2026 - we care about the integrity of the game. Come back in April 2027 and we might not care anymore."

Apparently caring about "the integrity of the game" has a short shelf life.

So now sorsby is threatening to sue the nfl. Trying to get the nflpa (of which he’s not a part of) to see if they will help. Either way he’s suing for violation of CBA and the law…

I think he could win, if the judge looks at precedent. No one who has filed an supplementary draft entry request in good order, which he has done, has been denied before. The closest precedent is Terrelle Pryor, who was allowed entry, subject to a five game suspension.

Ironically I think the best thing he can do now is shut up and bet on himself. Sit out the year, grow up and show it in the pre draft process next year. He’s already paid for this year by Texas Tech.

Why should he sit out without a fight?

I really like the "You didnt give us enough time to plan a draft. You applied only 3 days before the deadline."

WTF is the point of a deadline then?

Imagine you applied to Rutgers 3 days before the application deadline and they said "Oh we dont have enough time to review your application. You should have applied 10 days before the deadline. Admission denied.
Also, you only applied after Princeton denied your admission. We dont like that."

Why should he sit out without a fight?

Because nobody actually cares that he bet on games or the "integrity of the game".
Its mostly all fake outrage.

June 2026: He shouldn't play. We can never know if the game being played is fair. The integrity of the sport will forever be compromised if he plays.

April 2027: Its all good. No more concerns about betting on his own team. He was quiet for a few months so clearly nobody cares anymore.

April 2027- I made mistakes, I had to sit out for a year, I received treatment, learned my lesson and am a new man. Is it ********? Very possibly, but I’d take on that case as his pr team

He can fight all he wants, I just think he has a better path to basically taking a year’s paid suspension and going to the full draft next spring
Who is paying Sorsby? His contracts with Texas Tech and NIL sponsors almost certainly have monthly payments that terminate if he does bad stuff. Plus, Sorsby owes Cincinnati $1 million.

From what I’ve read he’s already been paid at least $1-2 million by Texas Tech and they don’t want it back

Excellent points, and I agree with you here.
But the Golden Rule is the person/organization that has the gold makes the rules. Sucks.

I don't necessarily agree with you here. Pete Rose comes to mind.
I actually do think many in the sports world consider this a sacred area that should not be violated. And I have not thought about it enough to say that I agree or disagree with it, just that I don't think it is all fake outrage.

I never understood why Ray Rice was not given a second chance. His wife forgave him, and he has lived an exemplary life. Does 1 drunken horrible mistake that is later atoned for and forgiven by his wife grounds for permanent ban? That's a fair question. I don't have all the facts, but didn't Sorsby have a pattern of betting on his own games and show no remorse?

He might go the Hunter Dekkers route and transfer to a JUCO to play in 2026
Dekkers played 3 years ( + a redshirt year) at Iowa State and was suspender by the NCAA for the 2023 season for gambling .Dekkers placed 26 wagers on Iowa State sporting events, including a 2021 football game against Oklahoma State, when Dekkers was the team's backup quarterback.[10] In all, he was accused of placing 366 bets that totaled more than $2,799,
In 2024 he transferred to a JC in Iowa and plated there
In 2025 the NO Saints signed him as a UDFA . Hes was added to the active roster for their last game
He's on the UFL Houston Gamblers roster this year , a fitting place for Hunter if I say so myself
Canadian Lol GIF

The UFL's 2026 season just ended and the CFL's season is already underway, so the JC route might be Sorsby's best way to show his skills , unless he goes to court to allow NFL teams to sign him as a UDFA because there wasn't a supplemental draft held this year.

Nothing is assured .
Sorsby wasn't expected to win his eligibility lawsuit against the NCAA, but he did and would have been playing if (my opinion) Texas Tech couldn't handle the blow back and convinced him to hit the road

He probably realized that suing the NFL was never going to work…ever ever as in ever because the NFL would’ve absolutely buried him in litigation that he couldn’t afford and would’ve lost…damage control now to appear contrite well ahead of the 27 draft.
