2025-26 NSAA Cup Winners

The Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) and the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) are pleased to announce the final standings for the Buckle Up Phone Down Cup, the All-Activities Award for Nebraska high schools. The annual awards program began in the fall of 2006 to recognize the state’s most successful high school athletic and fine arts programs. Awards are presented to the Nebraska high schools that earn the most points during the school year by participating in NSAA education-based activity programs. This all-activities (fine arts and sports), all-school recognition platform recognizes the “Best of the Best” each year in NSAA programs. The Buckle Up Phone Down Cup will be presented to the winning schools in the four classes of the All-School Division, Girls Division, and Boys Division in the fall.

Point System explained;

Each year the NSAA and the NDOT recognize the most successful activities programs in the state with the Buckle Up Phone Down Cup. Winners are determined by a point system based on performance in State Championship events within each division and class.

The Boys and Girls competition in each class features schools earning performance points from their respective activities. In the All-School Division, schools receive points for each of their NSAA registered programs for placing in NSAA Championship events.

Volleyball classifications are used to place schools in their classifications for this awards program.

All schools which finish in the top eight positions (plus any ties) in a State Championship event receive points. In activities’ Championships involving cooperative agreements, each of the schools in the cooperative will earn the points for that respective event providing they have at least one
student participating on the cooperative varsity team.

In Playoff events involving teams in a split classification, the same top eight positions in that event’s class (ex. D1 and D2) will earn full points for their class competition. If there are fewer than eight schools from a classification in the event, only those schools represented receive points.

Championship performance points are awarded as follows:

If a tie for place exists, points will be split evenly between all teams tied for a specific place. For example, the non-advancing quarterfinals teams in an eight-team, single elimination Championship bracket will split the 5th through 8th place points. (30 + 25 + 20 + 15 = 90 ÷4 = 22.5 points each)

In boys wrestling, Buckle Up Phone Down Cup points will be awarded based on a school’s highest finish at either the Individual Boys Wrestling Championship or the Dual Wrestling Championships. For example: If a school places 4th at the Boys Individual Championships and places 3rd at the Dual Championships, that school would receive the 40 points earned for the 3rd place finish at the Dual Championships, instead of receiving points for both Championship events.

Do you know how this works for teams who split classes depending on sport? For example they are D in football and basketball but then go C in track and wrestling. Does that just kind of screw them from ever being considered for this?

I believe they use the volleyball classifications for this for some reason. There are C-2 schools for football and boys basketball that are listed as class D
