From the article: "Under the new rules, players will be granted five years of eligibility to be completed within five years of high school graduation or an athlete's 19th birthday, whichever comes first."

I am not aware of too many kids graduating at 14 to achieve 5 years of eligibility. Either I'm reading this wrong or it's a typo.

Who is the ncaa and what do they do again? **

seriously can the ncaa actually enforce anything that will stand up in court? That's where all this goes now thanks to judges. Ncaa needs congressional law or member institutions needs to actually agree to enforce like they did with Texas tech. That's the only way this get better. NCAA can make all the rules they want but they have no power to enforce anything real any more

The 5 year clock starts at HS graduation or 19th birthday. If John cant graduate before 19 his clock starts regardless.
Not sure how you are reading it.

So does Hubbard automatically get another year or does the athletic department have to file a form of some kind? My understanding is he makes more money here than he can professionally overseas or D league..

This has a really good chance of surviving court challenges, and it is part of the Protect College Sports act if that manages to pass (it was also in the bill submitted by Tuberville, but I don't know whatever happened to that).

One problem the NCAA had in these State court cases was the gray area; the NCAA was constantly granting exceptions to its eligibility rules, so players like Chambliss argued the NCAA wasn't applying its exceptions fairly.

The exceptions here are military, religious duty, or maternity leave. Someone could certainly try to use those exceptions to seek an extra season for some other reason, but that would be rare.

And the ruling that JUCO attendance does not counts against NCAA eligibility is now moot.

It looks like its automatic. Any currently enrolled players can use the new age-based rule or the old rule, whichever is better for them.

Eligibility to be completed within 5 year of 19th birthday. So when you turn 24, you’re no longer eligible.

Ontario Harper waking up, reading about this decision, and realizing he woulda only played college ball for 3 seasons...itd be interesting to hear views from older players who were redshirted, medical redshirted, etc.

We could have had Brenan Thompson another year if this was decided earlier.

Who else could we get back?

I am assuming we'll be able to keep Kyle Ferrie for another year if he wants to stay. Other fourth year players are Isaac Smith, Ayden Williams, Zakari Tillman, and Ant Evans. Fluff could get an extra year too since he's a true Junior, as well as Xavier Gayten, and Amaree Williams.

It really benefits players that did not redshirt.

what about all the Mormons? BYU always has those 25-26 year old players that went on their mission trip.
