Highland Springs originally had Friendship academy (DC) scheduled for their rematch from the previous season, but I guess something caused the matchup to fall throughCorrect me if I’m wrong someone seeing this message but did that Ben L Smith team go 2-8 last year? I understand the district teams having to play them but Springs obviously went out of their way to agree to the game. I wouldn’t have thought they would agree to a team like that out of state. Desperate for a game that week or something?

Pretty difficult to schedule games when nobody wants to play you, Highland Springs haven't played anything close to a district schedule since 2022. Even then, it’s hasn’t been consistent with scheduling the Hanover county schools since 2018. Varina starting to have the same problem, they only have 9games scheduled so far because nobody wants to play them.
Not anymore, Highland Springs hasn’t played a full district schedule since 2016. First team they dropped was Armstrong, which was understandable at the time given Armstrong was barely able to consistently field a team and the last 2 matchups HSHS won by a combined score of 103-0. Then Mechanicsville (Formerly Lee-Davis) stopped scheduling HSHS after 2018, then Atlee and Patrick Henry was on & off with scheduling them, haven’t played neither one of those teams since 2022. I assume Highland Springs dropped Henrico because how lopsided the games were becoming but still sucks to see. The only district opponents Highland Springs plays now is Varina and HanoverIn Richmond, are you not required to play everyone in the district?
I don’t disagree that there were probably better matchups, but apparently it’s not easy to schedule those games, prime example look at Varina and Oscar Smith situation. Highland Springs been in this situation before back in 2023 when they originally had Martinsburg (WV) scheduled to play on their homecoming. But martinsburg backed out sometime during the summer which made HSHS have to do a last sec pickup game with Potomac HS (MD).I forgot about the friendship game so that makes sense. As far as not wanting play someone, not sure sure if that means they duck or just in talks with other teams etc.. I’m not sure but it’s like boxing in a way that no in state teams want to play haha. James Madison playing one of those teams would be good I think to throw that out there or Smith vs Benedictine. The top VA schools run out of opponents IMO in part that they’re too good for these other regional public schools but overall not up to par with the WCAC schools which is the top competition regionally (with the exception of Maury beating BM)
They filled that spot with the Huguenot gameI believe Hough, the NC team they played last year was only a 1 year deal. So they probably had a hard time finding somebody to fill the spot.

I think that and also they honoring their game against Warwick. I think they were trying free up one of their district games but wasn’t able to.I’m wondering if Smith is working to solidify a home game vs Gonzaga. Gonzaga would come down here if that were the case since they played last year.
