Timing is not horrible for Michigan...they have a complete roster and rated as high as #3 in pre -season ratings.
Now, can they keep it together?
Maybe they just promote asst coach Boynton
( former head coach at ok.st.). and manage to keep roster intact.

I do know that we could benefit with some recruits we are both pursuing.

May is a very good coach and a friend of Ben.
Amazing run for May from obscurity to NBA.

Glad we will not have to compete vs May anymore.
Hope NBA stays away from Ben.

Michigan job is to big for Boynton. May is an absolute stud. Seems like a perfect fit for the NBA. While a huge fan of Ben I don't think his style of play would be any kind of fit for the NBA.

Agree with most of this.

Don't see it being Boynton.

May probably a good enough fit for the NBA. But is the NBA the right fit for May? It can be really hard for guys that aren't used to losing a lot.

And Ben would have to change his entire defensive system in the NBA. He'd probably adapt pretty well, offensively. But overall, not much of an opportunity to play system ball. It's more about talent, as always in the NBA

Big shake up at the top of the big ten. Michigan was set for another run to the final four, now, who knows? I'm sure Ben is monitoring the situation and may reach out to some guys. Would be great to get talent like that on the roster.

I think they’re going after Donovan. Timing works out perfectly for everyone. And I’m sure those guys NIL deals will be incentive enough to avoid jumping ship, especially considering a coach with Billy’s credentials.

It is telling that Ben's group of college coach friends- TT s MacCausland, St Louis Schuerzer, and Ben are all on lists to replace May.

Coaches know who the good coaches are...no surprise that these guys looked to Ben for counsel.

Donovan would be the high profile home run hire that UM craves, but I do not think Billy wants to go back to college.

Hartman is the one 2026 UM recruit that we pursued....worth a call.

May strikes me as a very smart guy - like Brad Stevens smart. I'm still amazed that he was able to put together a roster from scratch and win a Natty. And, it's more than money and a sales pitch - you got to know the right guys to get.

I think he will do well in the NBA.

If Ben M is getting paid well at Iowa he will stay. He likes college ball and do you want to coach 80+ games a year and travel all over all the time? If Ben does really well at Iowa over 5 years he may look at bigger time college programs

Actually reports are they are hiring Boynton as interim. Keeps getting better for Iowa…
Yeah, a tough time of year to find a big time coach to hire in college. Pay Boynton for a year as interim to see how he does and how the players like him but in March and April 2027 a lot of coaches will be there to be hired

Good to have May in the NBA, but I don't see Ben having any interest in the NBA. He seems like a guy who loves the teaching aspect, the chess matches during games, even the challenges of recruiting. I just don't see any way Ben ever coaches in the NBA.

A stab in the back to the players. Many wont be able to transfer this late in the year or take a nil cut as most schools would have their money spent already.
The sharks are already circling. I'd be surprised if Michigan didn't lose at least a couple players (one I think is pretty much already gone). And there are a few kids that if they want to leave there are plenty of schools that will find the money for them because they can be difference makers.

So in your opinion will they have Boynton interim for a year and then decide if they want to hire someone else; or pull the trigger now on Donovan if he wants the job?
Secondly, is there a dark horse candidate that we’re all missing?

You may well be right, but part of me thinks that Ben loves a challenge, and at some point in his career, if given the opportunity, he may want to give it a go
