I find it hard to believe they want Mike Boynton in a role more than just interim. He didn't exactly crush it at Oklahoma State. He was the orchestrator of their championship defense though. Of course, there aren't many Yaxel Lendeborg's out there. That guy was possibly one of the most versatile defenders in college basketball history.

I think they have to move very fast. If Donovan slow plays a call, they hire Boynton. They may have a short list of others to call, but they need to retain their current roster

Boyton will be interim coach. Doubt they bring in someone over him now and let this season play out.

Doubt it. They’re riding with the continuity aspect. They’ll give Boynton presumably a season. If he retains the roster, make a run, and beat their rivals, they would most likely take off the interim tag. That said, most fans there are upset with what the AD is doing and wanted a search with a lot clamoring for Schertz. One of their insiders already said multiple HCs have reached out and still going with Boynton

Billy D is most likely done with CBB.

He’s poo pooed several opportunities now and isn’t the young hot shot “Billy the Kid” anymore.

Game has changed.

Also, as I said in a thread about Michigan coach, the league is just a better gig than CBB.

More games, but less work for a coach.

Dusty May is a hell of a coach. He made this current version of Michigan basketball.. Juwan Howard tried but dusty may got it done. It’s not like people are clamoring for that Michigan job. Could Billy Donovan take it? Sure but guys like him they know that Michigan is no blue blood, but there’s gonna be pressure. I don’t see Donovan taking over program on the heels of them winning a title. I think they hired an interim coach for the season. And they’ve got some decent players wouldn’t be surprised if some of them hit the market late. Whatever Billy Donovan does his next job it’s gonna be something well thought out it’s not gonna be on a whim. And I don’t see Michigan being willing to just hand everything over to Donovan because he’s the only guy available.

I swear some of us don’t understand 2006-2007 was a long time ago in a completely different era under completely different amateurism rules.

Donovan hasn’t recruited a college athlete since Zoom Diallo was 9 years old.

Was another sport.

Donovan likely done with CBB.

They'll keep the interim on for a year, if he crushes it, maybe they extend it, otherwise give it to Schertz.

Not sure what happens at UK as it wasn't long ago everyone wanted Pope out. If UM and KU are out to market, might be a bad time for UK to try and figure it out.

You’re right about Boynton. This is his audition. If it goes well, he’ll get a 3-4 year deal. If not, they’ll hire someone else in April. Schertz will be a hot commodity this offseason assuming his team does well.

Until the day he dies, Billy D’s name will be brought up for just about every high profile college bball head coach opening.

Bingo. Billy D is 61 now; he went to the NBA at 50. If he did not want to deal with the BS that was CBB then, he definitely does not want to deal with even more BS with NIL. Younger guys like Golden (40), Oats (51), Hurley (53), and Scheyer (38) might be ok with it, but definitely not someone who is 61 and has never dealt with the NIL/TP side.

Now the challenge is all about retaining the roster, which is top 5 good. If he can't, they're cooked and it's a foregone conclusion he's gone.

Zoom is 20 years old not 29.

Edit: After having it pointed it out I now realize you listed the dates of his title teams not the last time he coached at Florida. My bad. I should have thought that one through first.

Yeah but if we wait too long if it doesn’t work we may lose our shot at Otzelburger and McCaskle type coaches we could probably snag. They are next in line to win a title imho outside Scheyer, Oats, and of course that perv down in Florida.

Nah...If he is alive past mid 70's and not already established again his star will have dimmed.

He will always be able to get something like Pitino has but why would a top program sign up for anyone in eyeshot of 80?

I'd be fit to be tied if they tried to wheel in Izzo at this late stage.
All the respect in the world but it would be almost purposefully hiring an interim coach.

All of that is true but since he’s coming from the NBA he would most likely have a GM that would handle most of the NIL aspects.

Dusty sure screwed over Michigan that's for sure. Probably don't even give a damn. About what state he left Michigan in but I guess in this world he had to look after his own vest interests. It's the only rational thing to do

Exactly but people still cant let it go I dont know what it is about him or whatever that people get this idea he is wanting to come back into college basketball. He probably doesn't have the energy to recruit these guys like what is required.

did you know that Billy Donovan coached at Florida beyond 2007, and that if you subtract the number of years ago that he left from Zoom’s current age you get 9?
Good catch but if you look at the post I responded to he said things had changed a lot since '06-'07 which is why I went from that date. It seems obvious now that he was referring to the titles and not the last time he coached college ball. I didn't really think about it and erroneously went with the dates he provided. I was clearly too hasty with that response.

Does a cat possess a rear end ?? YES ... I can see Billy Donovan being a legit candidate for the Wolverines' head coaching position.

What I highlighted there our new AD is in pretty good with Oats at Alabama. So if it goes south with Pope very good shot that we can get Oats here like a lot of people have wanted the last couple of seasons.
