Tellingly, no game on this list coached by the program's two greatest coaches -- Rupp and Pitino.

How many programs could put together an NCAA tournament "Greatest Hits" list including wins by four different coaches -- but not the program's two greatest coaches? I'll tell you how many - One. Kentucky.

Solid list. Only one a I really disagree with is the 2012 semi over UL. That should be 96 over UMass, which was the real title game that season.

And any title is great, but 98 was my sweetest, because it was unexpected and because it marked the third straight time that team fell behind by double digits and came back and won. Plus, that was a team of leftovers- all the "star" players were gone, but you still had a bunch of excellent college players, and they put it all together when it mattered most.

Good list. I agree with Rekalin on the Princeton game. Brought us a final four. Watched the end of that game in the Vegas airport.

1975 over IU
1978 over Duke
1996 over UMass
1998 over Utah
2011 over Ohio St
2012 over UofL
2012 over Kansas
2014 over Wichita St
2014 over UofL
2014 over Michigan (I was there, 5 rows from the floor)
2014 over Wisconsin

2014 was a great tournament, we had such a low seed but such memorable games. Omg, I stood by Mitch Barnhart in Lucas Oil Stadium & slapped high fives when Harrison hit that 3 to beat Michigan & send us to Texas for the final 4. Then the 3 that beat Wisconsin. It still sucks that WCS got hurt against UofL in that tournament, he would've kept those UConn guards away from the rim in the title game. Randle missed too many damn FT that could've won it also.

98 win vs Duke deserves to be mentioned.
It does, but the OP went by round, and the win over 75 IU in the Elite 8 is probably the best tournament win UK has ever had. That was the only game IU lost in 2 seasons.

Glad people have mentioned 2011 Ohio St, which would also be my pick, though I get why someone might prefer UL in 2014. Ohio St. was the favorite entering that tournament and UK at that point hadn't been to the FF since 1998. It was a huge statement win.

My first pick was UMass, but man, that Louisville game was one we could not lose.

And the hardest one to pick was the championship. It's like picking your favorite child or dog.

Man… these are fun. I was at Uk from 1993-98. I pinch myself to think I was there in the glory days of the ‘90s. I was so lucky! I’m trying not to let that skew and really trace my fandom back to the early 80s when making these selections.

Mine are a little different but here goes:
Rd of 64: 92 vs. Old Dominion (it was our first tourney appearance in 4 years…. And so good to see UK back post probation… it signified that UK was back where it belonged)

Rd of 32: ‘14 vs. Wichita State (what a game and finally saw the team be who we dreamed they would be… also took out an undefeated team)

Sweet 16: ‘12 vs. IU (it avenged a tough loss and put Hoosiers back in their place)

Elite 8: Tie
‘98 vs. Duke (the comeback was epic and so emotional… and unexpected… never dreamed we’d make that final 4)

‘84 vs. Illinois (being a 10 year old and falling in love with a team like never before… Twin Towers and getting the final 4 again and getting to play in Rupp to get there… as a kid… just magical)

Final 4: ‘96 vs. UMass (not only was I there as a UK student in the Meadowlands… it was Ali/Frazier man… two truly great teams and we were better when it mattered most)

National Championship: ‘98 vs. Utah
(I was a soon to be graduating senior at UK and remember thinking at halftime that we had a great run… but down 10 and probably not going to make the comeback that night… again… but what a sweet surprise… only edges ‘96 bc it was so unexpected)

UK has won 4 titles in lifetime

‘78 I was still a little too young to remember
‘96 the most gratifying by far
‘98 the most surprising and sentimental
‘12 the most relief and justifying

I love these lists and enjoy reading all of them… sorry mine was so long

Happy Father’s Day and Go Big Blue

Maybe it’s not dripping with meaning but it sure was a rush watching our ‘96 squad bury #10 Utah 101–70 in their Sweet Sixteen game.

Why is Duke 98 not on people's list?
The Elite 8 round is the most stacked. Michigan State 78, Duke 98, UNC 11, Michigan 14, Notre Dame 15 all make sense. Indiana 75 was the Hoosiers' only loss in a two-year span. Plus the Knight-Hall incident that year in Bloomington.

Duke 98 was my second choice.

Wichita St (and technically us as well) got screwed that year. Undefeated #1 seed Shocker team and the committee put us in at number 8. We were a young team, but we were freaking loaded. We finished second in the SEC and lost to UF by one in the SEC tournament. We should have been at worst a 5.

96 Midwest Final vs Wake Forest would be a choice as well. UK played suffocating defense on The Big Fundamental.
