Her body composition change is amazing which should lead to less injuries and more agility, power and speed. She’s certainly putting in the work.Blanca looks like she is working hard. I know she can do it. Go Heels!
What was the reason for rejecting the term? Did they poll all the female athletes to arrive at that decision?UNC has officially and emphatically rejected the modifier “Lady” from all UNC athletics. You can’t put it in UNC publications, media or on merchandise. it is also requested that all athletes are called Tar Heels, full stop, in the media standards guide given out to all outside reporters and authors.
our teams don’t want the term lady and I try to honor that in my own speech. I think that is basic courtesy to call people what they want to be called.
Of course, that is a personal decision. there are no rules on this board that reject that term specifically.
You can use women and I’ll continue to use women or ladies just as I use men or fellas. It’s a post on a message board with no negative implications intended, in fact the post is applauding their efforts so take it however you choose.Women not "ladies"

You can also see her transformation in the 2nd video in the hand-eye coordination exercise. She is in the same picture behind CT. When you look at it, you can clearly see that she has slimmed down tremendously and waiting to lift weights.
Just a guessWhat was the reason for rejecting the term? Did they poll all the female athletes to arrive at that decision?
There is nothing clear in that pic. Background, ha ha. If she shows out in practice day one and plays more than 5 minutes in first game, and actually does not waddle up the court 2-3 times total, then good on her. I appreciate any serious work. She had (has ?) "potential". Carolina needs real inside presence. Can Toomey come back to her predicted "potential" and evolve into a REAL player? That would be significant. No need for ANY hype. Hype does not cut anything. Plenty of hype constantly on this board. The on-court games are real and are all that matters. Last year she was not relevant. next season? We will see.She is in the same picture behind CT. When you look at it, you can clearly see that she has slimmed down tremendously and waiting to lift weights.
not true. "ladies" is considered sexistWoman and lady are literally synonyms
I don't think you have to "live in the area". You just have to be alive and also understand what people in general like to be called, out of respect.Well to be honest some of us do not live in the area therefore, we did not know that fact. As someone stated earlier these terms are synonyms. Also, some of us who post are from different age groups; therefore, with that being in mind, we may use the term ladies not out of disrespect, but that was the way we were taught in our English classes which is correct English by the way. I do not have a problem with someone using the term ladies. I would rather them use that term then girls. Go Heels!
I’m more impressed with her body composition changes because of apparent toning and agility gains as viewed in some of the other videos. She’s running the court more fluidly. Agree that weight can be carried by different body types advantageously but it appeared that BT was still dealing with the aftermath of injury recovery last season. You don't need to be slim to play post in D1 WBB. It can help for some, but I'd rather have strength, explosiveness, stamina, and athleticism. Building those skills is not strongly correlated with "slim," and "slim" can be a pretty problematic focus to place on young women (men too.)
This is not an eye test thing. What matters is the metrics the staff measures in the gym. Sometimes those gains are visibly apparent. Sometimes not as much. We as fans do not have access to these metrics. For a analog to illustrate the point, think of a football lineman. Sometimes the eye test can tell you a lot. But quite often it is not very informative or downright misleading.
Thomas has always had solid footwork and a solid sense of court awareness for a post in general What I want to see more than anything is assertiveness, bordering on aggressiveness. I think that will help in finishing as well. Her scoring efficiency needs to go way up. She also should be able to rebound at am even higher rate, given her reach and footwork ability. (But her rebound rate as a freshmen was quite good; tops on the team tied with Ustby.)
Nah, there are plenty of great bigs who are not rim runners. There is more than one way to win in basketball. Is that the team we want to be? Is that the team we have built to be? Probably not. But if you are good enough you will play, even in our system.it will show in games. Can she get up and down the court to be relevant. First, running is the test for her. Dean Smith said give me a "big" that can run and has "good hands", and he proceeded many times to make such player a good to better player. Can Thomas run and not waddle. The chat and pie hope is irrelevant. As said we do not see the data. Nothing to hide in game play. Hope she can play the game the Tar Heels desire and need to play. Very tired of the hopeful explanations/excuses. Time for this player to put up. Hope for her success. If she can be a real player, she helps the Heels greatly.
great summaryJriv, you are absolutely correct. We have 3 candidate's for the 5 spot. Ciera Toomey,
Blanca Thomas and Noelle Bofia who at this point we know very little about except she looks like
an athlete and she can palm the ball and dunk it.(I love that)
Toomey is talented but needs to get stronger/take the next step. Blanca shows glimpse's of talent in limited time but needs to get stronger, tougher, faster/or better conditioned. Bofia we are all waiting to see how
close to ready for ACC play she is.
I personally believe we are going to be strong PG thru 4. The five is the spot we know we have
to play stronger, we know Ciera can do the job well but she needs to be able to take the next step JMO.
I am ready for some film of the team and how summer is going for them. Go Heels!
Hindsight bias at play here. Prognosis is based on probability. Sometimes you heal and then can condition on that estimated schedule, sometimes you do not. Then you can throw in complications, setbacks, and reinjuries ... that initial prognosis can change real fast.I am very surprised that CB and staff did not give her that option to red-shirt this past season because they should have notice how the injury was limiting her. This is why you have doctors, etc on staff to help point these things out.
Mostly agree. Thomas last season could not run the court.Jriv, you are absolutely correct. We have 3 candidate's for the 5 spot. Ciera Toomey,

Agree. Last season Thomas could not play, could not run the court. Hope she gained from experience.Blanca's injury did not allow her to do much last season on the court, or off the court physically. In hindsight she probably should have red shirted. She is now back to normal. We will learn a lot about her this season. She will either take a step forward or will fall behind others on the depth chart. Either way, the center spot will probably be by committee depending on match ups and how certain players are performing.
Good lord...It should not matter IMO if you called a female, a young lady, woman, etc. It is hard to know what someone likes to be called if you do not know them. For example, if I am at the store, and I need help from a woman who is working there, I may use one of those female terms mentioned above. I do not see the need to ask that person what do you want me to call them; especially if I am passing through; therefore, I will not have time to sit there and ask a person what they would like to be called. That is basically what I was saying about not living in the area. As long as you are showing or trying to show that person some form of respect, that should matter.
By some. A compliment by others. Is referring to a male as a gentleman also sexist? None of us can speak for these people without first asking their preferences. To do so is patronizing and condescending.not true. "ladies" is considered sexist
the damn university itself has asked people to stop calling them ladies because it is sexist....I think if the school is asking this of us, we can be pretty sure thats what they want....goodnessBy some.
