Tbh, it’s amazing to me when a kid who just finished his sophomore year of high school is already prepared to commit to a school, especially a kid who is likely to garner more and more attention with other programs ready to roll out the red carpet. Maybe it’s just me, but at that age I probably would have milked the attention for all it’s worth to see just how much love (and coeds) schools were willing to shower me with. And in the era of NIL? Oh, man.

Here are a couple quotes from the young man:

“What I liked most was the people and the culture,” said Smith. “The coaches treated me and my mom really well, and they made me feel like I belonged. It felt like home and I can see myself being a Hawkeye.”

“It felt like family there,” said Smith. “As soon as I stepped on campus, it felt like home. I loved the coaching staff there and I built a good relationship with them and I’m ready to keep building.”

Hopefully, this is the difference in the end, because Iowa does indeed provide that close-knit, family culture and unrivaled professionalism well-respected in the NFL (look up how many players by school made last year’s pro bowl). Add in Phil Parker’s reputation as the best in the business and long track record of putting out prolific defenses and molding kids, especially in the secondary, for future NFL careers and opportunities, it’s fair to say Iowa is a solid investment in this young man’s future. Or, as Geno Stone put it: “Iowa is the cheat code to the NFL.”

Welcome aboard, Dwalye!
