Let’s hope Pulisic can play. We can’t assume anything and have to try to win every game. Imagine we lose next 2 and go 1-0-2? We could be in 3rd or 4th in group and maybe not move on. So if he can play he should.

But if we are up big at half I’d take him out second half or at least at 60 min mark or the second half hydration break.

he’s the engine behind our attack

Interesting comparison of team height in CM. We are in the middle. But look where Argentina is and they are one of the favorites. Height helps but skill matters more

Checking that list, I was wondering why some have started to spell TURKEY differently. What's up with that ?

Pepi starting in Pulisic's place, assuming they are going with the same 4-2-3-1 formation we saw against Paraguay.

Was thinking they would go with Tillman, Wright or Aaronson in his place if he couldn't go.

Super sad Pulisic can’t go cause he was playing great but I like the choice of putting Pepi in because it gives us somebody who’s really good in the attack and he looked really good in the last match he played for us

Pulisic was the best player on the field that first game, so it's a big loss. Let's hope the others step up.

US up 2-0 now! Header off a rebound by Freeman! First ruled offside but overturned, correctly, by VAR. Thanks Aussie leg, lol.

I'm sure it's contrary to popular opinion, but I'd go much more conservative in this second half and keep some more men behind the ball. Australia is most dangerous on the counter, and it's not like they'll dominate possession if we play more conservatively. Most will want to keep the foot on the gas, but give me a 2-0 (or even 2-1) win and move along...winning the group (if things go right tonight) guarantees we can rest our first 11 on Thursday and make sure no one meaningful misses the round of 32 game.

It's interesting how so many teams at the WC are kicking the kickoff OOB deep in the other team's territory in an attempt to pin other teams deep and maybe get a turnover. Never saw that much before this WC

I don't hate the idea for the team, although it's not as much fun to watch. I'd also want to make sure we get a full 5 subs in for the experience (assuming we're still up at least 2-0 when we start subbing).

If Paraguay and Turkey tie and we win this game, we win the group which means Poch will Emory be bench for game 3 and rest the guys. I do want to see some guys get in now and gone is fresh legs

Our attack is not the same without Pulisic. Australia doesn’t have a lot of skill to be honest so it’s a grind it out win.

If we clinch group tonight with Paraguay-Türkiye tie then I expect they rest all starters- certainly all with a yellow and Pulisic

but if we don’t clinch I think we have to for the win game 3 as winning the group fixes you a much better route than 2nd place

Lets go Paraguay...really don't want Richards, Adams, or Jedi needing to play next Thursday (and give Pulisic more time to heal).

Such a great day...we did what we needed to do, and South Jersey born Harry Higgs hanging in there at the US Open!

Good solid 2-0 win - first time ever advancing to the next round after only 2 group games. Let's keep up the momentum.

What formation are you using? Balogun and Pepi won't be on the field together unless they are trailing in a knockout stage match.

Poch ran the same 3-4-2-1 formation today that he's been using for awhile now, so I have it like this:

GK: Freese
CB: Freeman, Ream, McKenzie (until Richards is back)
WB: Dest & Robinson
CDM: Adams & McKinnie
AM: Pulisic & TBD btw Tillman, Aaronson & Reyna
Striker: Balogun
  • Ream being named Captain means he's starting every game which is crazy and an indictment on how bad our CBs are other than Richards. Freeman immediately moving to starting CB when he's a RB also says a lot.
  • Richards from my understanding is going to miss at least 1-2 games in the group stage. There's a chance that he could miss the entire group stage.
  • If McKinnie is starting across from Pulisic as an attacking mid, then you're stuck with Roldan or Berhalter as the other starting CDM. This is where excluding Aiden Morris for Zendajas or Arfsten is going to bite them.
Who are you using in a 3-4-2-1?
Remember - Balogun and Pepi won't be on the same field "unless they are trailing in a knockout match."

This guy is the mayor of Wrongovia.

I'm not going to get them all right and Poch surprised me with this move. At the end of the game when both were gassed, we couldn't break out easily. Against a better team, they would have likely scored by having us pinned in our own end that long.

But I have to give you props for calling me out while never commenting in this thread with your own lineup or anything. It's easy to sit under that rock and cherry pick things isn't it...lol.

I was wrong, we win group with a Paraguay win or tie so that certainly possible! Wouod love to get our key guys some rest. In fact you can guarantee Poch starts a new XI if we clinch group tonight.

probably:

GK: Turner
DB: M Robinson, Trusty, Scally, McKenzie
MF: Roldan, Aronson, Arfsten
F: Wright, Zendejas, Reyna/Weah

Second half you’ll see Brady, Berhalter, Pepi, Weah/Pepi

BTW, who did USA bride to get this garbage draw. LOL! I guess that is a benefit for being the host team?
Answer to your question (such as it was) is yes. Host nation is automatically one of the 12 top seeds. So we avoided the superpowers. Canada and Mexico got the same benefit.

We also got a benefit from drawing Australia in Pot 2, but that was offset by some bad luck in drawing Turkiye in Pot 4.

So yeah, a relatively easy draw due to our host nation status. But no minnows in the group either. Could have been tougher, could have been easier.
