peoria hs, pnd, bloomington, normal com and west. plus washington. and ratsy...........i want morris! net-se. @cornerrat#1 @rocketnation what say you?
Looking at that list, Rochester has only ever faced one of those schools in the regular season, Peoria in 2023.

This year the non-conference opponents are Moline and Batavia. Last year it was Gibson Southern (IN) and Mt Zion. In '24, it was Simeon and Cardinal Ritter.

I would like to see in the future at least one of the non-conference games be against somebody from your list and that the Rockets would play them at least two years before looking to alternative matchups.

All.... Morris would be a good choice as well Coach. Lots of pregame fun at that little park across the street from their stadium with Redskin fans.

The others you mentioned for sure as well. SHG by the way early in their non con search this year reached out to PND that was also looking for a week 1 or week 2 game. They said.... nope. šŸ˜ž Ratsy

They should, it's a better fit IMO.

I feel like Marmion would win easily every year, no? I admittedly have lost track of ACC football. I know they are Ind League and made playoffs last year and then got waxed by R-B in playoffs.
Marmion would win comfortably the past several years but it is a heated rivalry.

Both programs should be better but that’s another topic….

I was unaware it was that heated, I figured there was some rivalry.

In the 90’s and early 2000’s football games had great crowds and a ton of hostility between schools. Both programs were very competitive.

Probably would take some time to get it going again but the game should definitely be on the schedule each year. It’s on ACC but I digress.

I'd like for the CCL to add Andrean High School in Merrillville, IN.

The Fighting 59ers are winners of two Indiana state championships in the last five years, including one last year in 2A. Would be great to give smaller CCL schools like ICCP and Montini some better divisional competition. Andrean and Marian Catholic are about 20 miles apart as the crow flies and enroll students from the same communities in between Merrillville and Chicago Heights. Yes, on both sides of the state line!

BTW, Andrean's campus sustained significant damage from the tornado that ripped through Merrillville last week.

But amazingly after the tornado passed, the cross at the school was still standing.
True. However, there was a lot left standing in addition to the cross. Yes, there was substantial damage, but it's not as if the entire facility was completely destroyed (which, if it had been, would have made the cross still standing all the more extraordinary). The school is planning on opening for the fall semester.

Taylorville has made facilities upgrades recently too, right?
All.... Several years ago they put in turf. Could be more seating but that is an issue for many schools. On the away side there is no railing if one wants to come down out of the stands and go to the concession stand or better yet across the street to the tailgate area for a quick refreshment. Without a railing making sure you don't coming down fall on somebody was always somewhat of a challenge for the rodent.

I recall the last time SHG and Taylorville played each other in 2014. The Tornadoes had been out of the CS8 for just a year and many in the conference were still unhappy of their departure to the Apollo. Of course I have a story!

Now the Taylorville faithful felt this was the year and team they had been waiting for quite some time. The year before getting popped pretty good in round of the class 4A playoffs by Rochester. I think by the way the Rockets in that game let off the gas early. (rocketnation could confim that I'm sure he was in attendance) Hopes were really high the following season that a possible rematch could be in the cards they thought would be winnable.

But then the postseason qualifiers were announced and the Tornadoes end up being one the smallest teams in class 5A. Fast forward to round three where SHG is coming to town. The Ford dealership directly across the street has this big plot of land that they open up to tailgaters. A huge overflow crowd is expected to show up. The good folks at Bob Ridings Ford have let me set up a few hours early in that area. Driving at that time an F150 purchased in Taylorville they were very accommadating. My tables were out with some packaged food and the SHG flag was flying high in the sky about 40 yards away from the ticket booth. Already there are 30 or so fans all from Taylorville waiting in line with blankets to grab seats. I stroll over with a blanket as well. And then it starts. lol Gates will open by the way two hours early.

The rodent received the stink eye immediately. Lots of frowning as well. 30 to 1 aren't the best odds. So this gent with his wife standing next to him starts up. He says the night before some "SHG" kids came into town and threw a brick through a merchants window in town as well as and he points to the stadium tearing in half many of those large picutres of players placed on the fence. I rember as he is yapping his wife tugging on his shirt hoping he would just shut up. The rest of the crowd was captivated with him though. So my response and measured was " if" they were SHG kids I would of hoped they would of been caught and arrested. That didnt go over well.

By this time I have a friend next to me who has arrived for the game. Back to this gentleman he now a little more loudly says you people come to town and then think you own it pointing to my truck across the street and tailgate set up. I casually remind him the dealershop owns that property and were more then happy to allow me to park in the area to have fun tonight. His wife is really tugging on his shirt now.

Now he steps away from the line and his wife (lol) and makes a call. I'm watching him. I see from the corner of my eye a few minutes later coming out of a side door of the school a group of young male kids slowly heading towards my truck and flag. Dan my frend next to me sees them as well and makes a dash across the street heading them off. Protect the flag at all costs he yells. (lol) The kids go back into the school.

So more fans show up for both sides. What the Tornado faithful didn't realize at the time this was likely one of the best Cyclones teams they have ever had. They had no idea what was coming. The final that night 63-14. Two weeks later the Cycs finish the year at 14-0 defeating the Broncos in what was a very competitive game for both of those squads.

Would Taylorville really want back into the CS8 regardless of enrollment? I don't think so.... Ratsy

I'm not a Taylorville guy but interesting story. My question was more geared towards do they have the facilities to accommodate an influx of students if annexation happens.

I like the idea of MTZ going to the CS8. MTZ and Rochester was a great game last year.

AH.... The CS8 will allow schools to consolidate... really can't do much about it. It would be better for Decatur in the long run.

I remember a lot of trash taking from the SHG crowds during some Tornado victories over the Cyclones back when Taylorville was in the CS8!!!

LZ to the MSL
I thought the exact same thing. LZ is bookended by Palatine to the south and Barrington to the west. I think Hoffman Estates, eventhough its a good program, would be better in Upstate or something similar. It's the lone 6A program among 8A programs in the MSL West.

Question, but wouldn’t that then put LZ as the lone 6A program then, honestly asking?

edit, brain cramp, 7A.

If if they dropped to 6A they could handle it. LZ already plays out of conference with pretty much every MSL school in other sports as well.

Plus, who knows when they will change the divisions up for competitive balance like they have in the other sports

if decatur publics consolidate they will be kicked out of the conference. i've only been coaching in the cs8 for 33 years. this has been talked about for quite some time. i know what i'm talking about.

All..... Can't see Taylorville regardless of possible enrollment increases ever coming back as well. Back in the day Coach Alberssen had a way of getting every athlete in town he wanted to play football regardless if they were participating in other sports. Not so much now Coach. Ratsy

Would the reason be that a single Decatur HS would be by far the largest enrollment in the CS8 (possibly 7A) or the difficulty in then having to "recruit" another school to come in to keep the conference at 12 teams?

All..... My two cents worth. Other then tiny St. Teresa who's enrollment is down to 206 that would give a consolidated school a lock on the whole town in multiple sports not just football. Although Mac seems to as of late doing well in getting football defectors coming in from Eisenhower. Ratsy

Why would Lemont do it?
IF you could add a team......

Not saying Lemont would do it, but:
1. Most Lemont sports are not challenged in the SSC.
2. Stagg is not competitive in most SWSC sports.
3. Geographically makes more sense for Lemont.
4. Lemont more socionomically comparable with the SWSC
5. Stagg more socionomically comparable with the SSC

Wouldn't they immediately be the smallest school in the conference and with Stagg out pretty clearly expected to be last in conference in football.

Basketball theyd likely fair better I could see as high as 2nd, but never surpassing HF. Not sure about the other sports.

I just struggle to see a school deciding to go from 1st to last in football.

Decatur has a history of closing schools so a consolidation, to save money, is in the future... Its not IF but WHEN...
