Taking Care of Business, Baby.

That is what it is all about.

To that end I took a look at who did their job (win an NCAA title) the fastest (average bout length) without needing special accommodations (no OT bouts).

3 point TD could factor in. You probably already posted avg time of TF5 before/after change …

Turns out it has taken an average of 335 seconds in the three years since the three point TD to secure a TF.
In the three years prior to the three point TD it took an average of 324 seconds.

So it takes 11 more seconds to secure the TF with the three point TD.

The real difference is in the number of them rather than to time (153 vs 49).

One possible way to explain it is that with the three point TD less skilled wrestlers are getting TFs they would not have otherwise gotten with the two point TD. And due to their lesser skill it takes them more time. You do not have to buy that though. There may be other explanations.

Starts and end with Danny Hodge. Was never taken down during his college career, 76 percent of his wins coming by fall. I had the privilege to meet Danny several times at wrestling camps and he was great with my young wrestlers, very patient showing technique and had a great sense of humor. A true killer on the mat with a smile and a twinkle in his eye.

I would categorize never being taken down and 76% pins as dominance stats rather than efficiency stats (except to the extent pins came quickly). And there is no doubt he is on the Mount Rushmore for dominance. And probably for efficiency too. But it is harder to quantify and normalize for earlier eras.
