The fact that you find it creepy says more about you than it does about the long standing tradition. Can you imagine how excited a soccer loving kid would be to get to walk out on the field with a player in the World Cup? There really isn’t a boogeyman hiding behind every corner. Some things are just innocent great experiences for children.

Having every game begin with the players walking out holding hands with anonymous children who are aged 6-11 years old and also known as the "player escorts" is creepy as 17.
I mean, uh, .....

I really do try to watch it. But the flopping makes it unbearable.
My son - a huge soccer fan and current player in the U13 age bracket - was just commenting last night that these guys are a bunch of p-y's for flopping so much (he didn't use that word, but it's what he meant.) He said he and his teammates make fun of anyone who does that in their games, which I applaud.

Glad they are giving out yellow cards in the WC this year to the obvious fakers.

You'll be happy to hear that they're carding egregious floppers. Heck in the Men's game on Friday, a Paraguayan flopped and our guy got a yellow card, but then the ref got paged to a monitor and a few seconds later, he pulled the yellow from the American and gave it to the Paraguayan.

It was beautiful. The expression on the Paraguayan when he knew he got caught was golden. I don't expect him to flop again in his remaining two games on the world stage.

It really is sad that so much of what should be seen as just wholesome and showing an interest in kids is interpreted as being creepy. Lots of young kids, boys in particular, need mentors but it's a hell of a reputational risk to show any interest in kids that aren't your own relatives.
innocent like being a Disney television cast member,
Disney and hollywood in general being full of a bunch of creepers isn't really a reason to assume every profession is full of creepers.

I think baseball players grabbing each other’s dicks and slapping each others arses and thrusting their hips into each other to celebrate wins is way more creepy than kids walking out with soccer players before a World Cup game.
That’s called “Tuesday” in San Francisco

I doubt the kids think it's creepy. They get to be center stage with their heroes and world's most popular athletes for their sport on a world stage. At worst, it's a core memory for them. At best, it could be life changing for the better.

That said - I would not doubt part of the tradition is so that opposing fans are less likely to pelt the players with God knows what.

Wait until he moves up to U14. This is where the kids (from watching the pros) start flopping. I can't stand it and sadly the majority of the parents don't recognize or refuse to reckognize it.

He proceeded to flop about five more times that game.

It happens way too much.

LMAO..... I played a lot of baseball growing up and nobody grabbed my Richard. Now, arses that's 💯 and a weird tradition so I get your point but I'm thinking there would have been problems with the guys I played with if our Richard's were being grabbed by other teammates. We annoyingly shifted around our own junk and spit too much but no grabbing teammates frontal junk****
