Quite upset about the WC ticket prices. I scouted prices for the Philadelphia games, and the least costly was Ivory Coast vs. Curacao. (And) to tell the truth, I don't even know where Curacao is. $~430. / Ticket, and those are the cheap seats. With travel, toll, food this would be a `$1000+ trip.
I understand there have been many complaints about the gouging with food, drinks, and concessions as well.
How do they fill the seats?

Check out Stubhub…they’ve got seats under $300 for Ivory Coast/Curacao, and prices should only drop from here.

Australia-Turkey was an interesting one…Turkey dominated the possession and spent the game controlling the ball just outside the box and either firing shots into traffic that were blocked, or playing crosses that Australia headed away. They are huge and won’t beat them through the air. Good result for US I think.

While I like the Alan Parsons Project, it’s high time they retire Sirius from sports intros.

I just got in from a walk with the missus, Germany’s leading and Curacao misses a shot. “Curaçao isn’t going to have many opportunities better than this,” and two minutes later, bang, it’s 1-1.

they don't seem to be having any issues selling tickets

A very entertaining 3-1 first half. All other things being equal, I always root for Germany.

Not that Curaçao had any chance in this game, but that penalty at the end of the half is the reason people laugh at this sport.

I guess YMMV, but there was zero pushback from the Curacao players on this trip. Them’s the rules, don’t trip players in the box. I don’t know what else to say.

Germany taking batting practice.

Reminds me of my daughter’s high-school JV soccer games. Some games my daughter’s team had the other team totally outclassed and the coach would set up a rule: don’t shoot until you’ve made at least ten passes.

Good rule, but I would be too busy counting fingers to be of any use on the field.

Apparently, Havertz can’t count to ten either.

My daughter was the keeper, made for some really agonizing moments for me, I’d pace the stands. One time I showed up five minutes late to a match and I see that my daughter’s playing forward (because they were playing a pushover). I join the other parents in the stands. Everyone’s staring at me, no hellos.
“She scored, didn’t she?”
“Yeah, and you missed it.”
“I suck as a parent.”
My daughter was livid, signing furiously to me at halftime while the other parents were laughing their butts off.

Netherlands-Japan reeks of potential to be an excellent game. I’m all atwitter.

My first exposure to world-class soccer was when I’d see Johan Cryuff playing for the Washington Diplomats at RFK, back in the late seventies. He was really really an eye-opener. My friends and I would go up to the deserted upper deck and pass around joints. Good times.
