Fair to say now that we probably were a top 5 team if you look at the practical side. Oh but you’ll say we didn’t take care of business in the regular season. Well we did have an incredibly hard SEC slate. But that’s our cross to beat I suppose, we do benefit greatly from SEC money.

Either way it appears Georgia is and was always the best team. You could make a case for Texas over us, Oklahoma certainly is hot. So while our team was not the overall best, it certainly was right there in the edge of elite.

Might ought to calm down with the fire Parker and muh didn’t meet expectations garbage.

Reseed after Regionals. I know, we should've taken care of business ourselves before that.
I don’t even think we need to do that, tournament still will do what it was meant to do, which is determine a champion.

But we definitely shouldn’t be comprising the final rankings and who we feel was ‘best’ with ONLY postseason results, outside of the top spot. Don’t really need final rankings at all.

This is based on Texas melting down in the 1st inning of the CWS?

The problem with the state of State right now is that in the past 18 months, Mississippi has been in the Final Four of the CFP, the men’s and women’s Sweet 16, the Women’s College World Series and is now in Omaha when we beat them four out of four times.

It’s just abysmal and we have to find a way out of this.

Watching the whole first round.

But yeah confirmed that Georgia is most likely the best team by a bit. And if you reread the post I said Texas was likely a little better than us too. Basically just seeing that Georgia hasn’t slowed down at all.

I’ve also seen people that said Georgia won’t hit bombs in Omaha - that was fake news too.

That’s not very good, I agree, but we still had a top 5 baseball team. Not much to worry about there going forward. That’s my point.

The crazy part about this is I didn’t know ole Miss was in the men’s sweet sixteen. Maybe I just blacked out. Damn sure didn’t know about the women’s.

Top 5 baseball teams don't lose 6 out of their 10 conference series. Plus we racked up over half our SEC wins against teams that didn't make the postseason. If McPherson had not gotten hurt then yeah probably could have been a top 5 team/national seed

Whatever. Could say the same thing about Alabama.

Outside of a nice run by the softball team, visible Mississippi State athletics has been terrible under the current administration.

our baseball team played well enough last weekend to advance out of every Super Regional except the one we were in. The future looks nice, but it absolutely sucks that we are watching five SEC teams in Omaha, including Mississippi.

2 of the 5 SEC teams have proven to be frauds. Ole Miss and Bama. Neither have any beeswax being in Omaha.

Soccer win the sec championship. And new coach seems to be doing a pretty good job in the portal & beat Bama & Auburn in the spring schedule.

Rigid statements like this lack logic. College sports have greatly changed and some you act like it’s still 2006 with your assumptions.

I'm not disappointed with the team. I'm just impatient. Ready for some damn consistency and for BOC to get his guys in here and hit cruise control. We're so damn close and I believe we would've gone to Omaha had (typical State bull$#!t luck 🙄) we not gotten paired with Georgia of all the damn teams in the Super.

No shlt. That’s the point of the thread.

I’d argue we are there. We hosted a regional. Do that 80% of the time and we’ve arrived.

That's why I don't see how you can give our regular season a high grade. Losing SO many games we should have won is what got us paired with a Top 3 seed. Georgia likely is the best team but if we win just one of all those SEC series we lost, then we don't get paired with them.

Our SEC schedule was very hard. Our players are humans. Sometimes they will lose games they shouldn’t when facing that grind.

Your mindset is the exact one I am attacking.

The National Championship Series was played last Saturday and Sunday in Athens, GA. This thing in Oklahoma is a farce due to the way the regionals were set up.
Nebraska was a fraud.
UCLA pissed down their own legs and Cal Poly never had to play them. Stupid format.
Kansas had an overrated Arkansas.
Georgia Tech got screwed by drawing Oklahoma.
Florida State was a fraud!
Southern Miss was a Fraud!!
Florida was unlucky.

State did get an easier home draw then most host but dominated.
Ole Miss got the easiest Road draw! But they did shut down Auburn who couldn’t hit their way out of a paper bag!

If you want to keep comparing State to UMiss and basing the state of our program off of what they do, feel free.

You‘re sounding a lot like a TAMU milkman cheerleader, though. Should we re-write our fight song to say something about “Down with the Confederates” too?

We will have to agree to disagree on our having a top 5 team, in my opinion the results don't support that. I think we finished 8th in conference.

I was disappointed this season because we did not perform up to expectation. What happened last night validated the disappointment because our under performance resulted in going on the road to Georgia in the supers Instead of meeting them in Omaha.

I don’t favor canning Parker but to be devils advocate, TX did hold UGA to 7 runs and at least 2 were unearned. Our pitching did not come close to that in Athens and is why we are sitting at home now.

I don't mind folks pointing out OM accomplishments- hopefully it will light a fire under leadership and, more importantly potential donors - because that is the name of the game. They give - they demand results.
They're far better positioned in Football now, about the same in basketball, and we own them in baseball.

I don't think we were a top 5 team this year, MAYBE top 10. The mid season melt down against UGA and TN cost us. We lost the majority of our SEC series. One can argue a healthy McPherson and Kirk gets us a couple more wins and a top 8 seed. Who knows. That said, good first year under Oak, and hope he can build on this and make us a continual top 10 ranked program in the country.

Wasn't there a rule on here about calling people Closet Rebs?

I've been here since the beginning. Avid Reader, the banana fellating Clemson fan, and I was the commissioner of the DDDY. I hate everything about the University of Mississippi, but I will point out that they are having much more success than we are if it will light a fire under our people.

It should have pissed you off that Mississippi was in the semifinal of the College Football Playoff and the men's Sweet 16. Who cares about the women and they had a similar WCWS miracle run last year that we did this year.

Personally, I believe Mississippi making Omaha (hopefully Troy sends them home today) while we had a pretty damn good team (definitely top eight in the country) will piss off our baseball-first fanbase into giving a 17. We have to get rid of Lebby this year. I want State to win every football game, but one of the worst things that could happen for our team's future is for Lebby to have a Croom 2007 season. Lebby is not an SEC football coach.

Jans has to get it together. We have essentially wasted a once in a generation talent in Hubbard. O'Connor is awesome and will take us to Omaha next year - we got a bad draw, but if we don't go 0-6 in the regular season against Georgia and Tennessee, we don't get that draw. That wasn't on O'Connor though - we had a bad stretch. And like I said, we probably played the second best of any team in the Super Regional round.

I don't disagree with you that our pitching is why we lost at GA, but playing devil’s advocate, we lost to the consensus favorite to win it all (and, in my view, the best team in the country all season) by a combined three runs across two games on their home field.

Our pitching wasn’t great in Athens, but neither was theirs. If those two games against the nation’s best offense are the standard for evaluating a pitching staff, then GA's staff would have to be considered a concern as well.

Over conference play, we finished in the top five in ERA.

Losing in the Super Regional was frustrating, especially with how well the offense was playing. But if you had told me before the season that our year would end with losing by 3 combined runs to the national title favorite on the road, I wouldn’t have viewed that season as a disappointment.

I’ve got a question; why do people come into a baseball topic and continually/ repeatedly say baseball is either a club sport or all nil monies spent on baseball should be spent football or baseball is just not important.

Don‘t understand! Give it a rest! Baseball is not going anywhere nor is the spending.

Who cares really? They caught a break and took advantage of it. We are a National program in baseball. What they do or don't do in baseball has little impact on our program.

Now, our other sports aren't at a national level so I do agree we need to be more locally and regionally competitive but save that b!+ching for the fall where it's more applicable.
