Clinton Solomon stepped up big time after Ed Hinkel broke his arm early on in this game. Solomon scored two TD’s and birthday boy Drew Tate threw for 350 yards. Chris Spielman and Mark Jones had some pretty funny banter, which I tried to leave in where I could. Everyone was having fun in West Lafayette that day.

I was at that game. That was a fun game. I forgot how much I enjoyed listening to spielman. Wish he’d come back to the announcers booth.

When Spielman came to bat for Iowa during the 2006 Outback Bowl, he became my favorite. I too wish he'd come back to announcing college games. Didn't his wife die and he said he was going to spend more time with his kids? Pulled a Rick Moranis if memory serves.

My favorite moment from this game is Mark Jones being Mark Jones, saying about KF who was ripping the officials, "he's using some bilious vernacular," and Spielman fires back "and saying bad words."

When I watch Solomon run after the catch it makes me hope we can use RVZ the same way.

2005 commentator says "talk about iowa...last in the conference in offense coming into the ballgame..."

2026 commentator hopefully "...this high octane offense is lighting up the conference...just unbelievable..."

Is it just me or do I remember Solomon running like he had little control of his arms? A unique flail as he tears down the field

And if my memory is right, the 2005 team would go on to have a fairly productive offensive season, statistically speaking. They finished no lower than 7th in most major categories and as high as 3rd in a few categories, including passing yards per game. They averaged 30 ppg. In fact, I think that was the last year we did until 2020, though I could be off on that.

7-5 with 4 very frustrating losses that could’ve easily been Ws. Only loss wasn’t close blowout at OSU (Drew Tate spiked ball game). Isu 5 turnovers and lose Tate to concussion, NW blow late 13 pt lead with an onside given up, Michigan controversial call by refs in regulations ends up with loss when games goes to ot ends home winning streak and infamous Outback bowl with so many egregious calls by refs. ending with us being offsides on onside kick which reply showed we were not. That was game I thought no call could be worse when Solomon got a face mask penalty when he was one grabbed and thrown down by facemask but I was proven wrong. To sum up the 05’ season and what could’ve been as a wise man once said “that’s football”…

I was also at this game and sat near Solomon's mom. She hugged my buddy and I calling us her babies as she was so excited. What a great day...

Someone on this site offered free tickets because someone couldn't go. Drug my buddy out of the bars and said we are leaving in 5 hrs.
