Heeg is a strong ISU lean and he was injured on a training trip to Iowa City — so I’m sure that hurts our chances.

I hope we are all over Sanchez and Hutcherson and Karenbauer.
Oh, so he got hurt while training at Iowa City? Sorry, I didn’t know if you meant he got injury training at IC or injured on a trip to go to IC.

Hopefully Warner can use his Illinois connections to get more kids from the land of Lincoln. What is Heeg projected at? If he is projected at 174, then we should be all over him.

I assume these are Willie’s new pfp rankings. Sick of getting out done by ISU recently for guys we actually wanted. How did Sanchez go from #1 to #6? I’m sure he will choose between PSU and OSU anyway. We need upper middle weights to 197. Would love Hutcherson, but seems like he would fit nicely on PSU and osu line up, so probably end up there as well as Howard. Perhaps we have a shot at the Indiana kid who was listed 157 last year and now at 174. Totally agree with Fernandez kid out of Cali at 174, but could replace Angelo at 184.

new Class of 2028 (Juniors) Board

Consensus seems to be i dinged Sammy too much. he took a couple losses (albeit to studs Zinkin and Isaiah Cortez). might have to revisit that. but more than the losses (for me anyway) it was about the weight - there are a gazillion talented lightweights. upperweights...not so much.

that being said, Sammy is a stud for sure and arguably the most coveted recruit in the class.

which Indiana kid are you referring to? Matty Staples?

I think Sammy was ranked well, especially since he’s a huge lean for PSU and it seems like it will be extremely difficult to start there with Sidun and Burnett manning 125-133. Plus, after 5-5, Luke still has 3 more years…

I can see PSU getting Mario, Howard, and Sanchez. It’s almost comical to think they don’t go to PSU at this point, unfortunately…

I really hope we can land Heeg and Isai Fernandez. We already got Freddy and Sean Kenny.

Any other targets you guys think we have a chance with or should go after? I would love to go after Chase Karenbauer, but we are filled at the weights he is projected at. Also, I’m sure Jayden O'Farrill is probably going to VTech or PSU.

I think your right about anyone from McCort who is highly ranked following Bo and Melvin to Vtech, unless their dream is PSU , even if it means getting paid to sit. It is surprising Howard and Sanchez would want to enter the crowded weights at PSU they would fall into. Unfortunately for us, Mario will fall nicely into their line up at either 197 with Barr leaving, or heavyweight, with only Mirisola x2 there for now.

Where’d you get the info on Sammy being a huge psu lean? Wouldn’t be surprised, I think he’s the #1 guy in the class and would hope we at least attempt to get him.

i'm pretty sure Matty O'Neill is in play for the Hawks.

and i wouldn't be surprised if it was PSU-Iowa (in that order) for Mario Hutcherson.

Bacon...yeah really weird. Made GR World Team and Fargo finals last summer. had a really rough year. but he's just a FR and Sem's schedule is brutal. especially for a FR upperweight. his sister is a beast too.

Did bacon get beat out of the spot or why didn’t he wrestle at the end of the year?

The O’Neills practice a lot with the Bachmanns, so I’m happy to hear that! What weight does he project at?

Also, I thought Asher was at FCA? And thanks for the response, hoping he can make a turnaround this summer!

Asher is at FCA. They have an extremely tough schedule too and 160 is a tough weight for a freshman. Still expected better results but he had a tough match with Zeno Moore at Ironman who was top 5 at his weight I believe. He didn’t place at Ironman or doc b and than at the end of the year idk if he got hurt or got beat out of the spot but I don’t believe he wrestled in the postseason. Still someone to keep an eye out on as I believe he’s close to the Bachmann’s and has been very successful up to this point.

What weights does Matty O'Neal project at? Wasn't Sammy Sanchez being coached by Brody Teske as well maybe im completely wrong about that and its a different recruit?
Yeah, he was being coached by Brody Teske, but Brody moved back to Iowa. Again, I may be super wrong, but I don’t see him going anywhere else but PSU. Doesn’t matter how many wrestlers they have waiting in the wings, which we have seen already…

Hope I’m wrong and that he is a Hawkeye!

Matty is wrestling ~150 rn. but i think he plateaus weight wise. 149-157.

i think Joey Bachmann is 165-174
Going to be interesting to see Joey up at 165! U20 Pan Ams couldn’t come faster, I’m sure a full feed diet will help him with his conditioning.

Do you think it’ll be better for him at 165 or 174? With his talent and consideration of the field/future field.

Howard will be hitting just as big if not worse log jam also, but seems like top 10 guys from his club end up at PSU .

Hope he is growing taller also. Thought he looked smaller than Bassett when they met at 150 twice this year, and everyone is calling Bassett a 141 this year

We get good kids, PSU gets the GREAT kids. We have a staff that bickers and argues and fights with some of the best club coaches. But we are taking accountability and making changes to close the gap, right ??
As far as KD is concerned, it sounded like he was intentionally trying to instigate a fight. You know TnT aren’t going to back down from a punk like him.

And unfortunately the results are yet another elite club that actively pushes high end wrestlers away from Iowa. At some point it can't always be other people's fault.

Compensation does change the public lens, but it doesn’t mean we should forget these are still “people” navigating intense pressure. Critique is one thing—disrespect is another. Being paid doesn’t make someone immune to basic decency.
Ben is feeling really good today! Thanks for all the support!

This is not Ben’s fault. This really isn’t the assistant coaches fault either. They would benifit from leaving the program Also. They are not learning how to coach at all. This is on Tom. His unwillingness to make the correct change. Ben and the entire program deserves better. I’m sure they all love Tom though. Iowa wrestling is ISU football. They win the championship in togetherness… they just don’t win much in wrestling.

And unfortunately the results are yet another elite club that actively pushes high end wrestlers away from Iowa. At some point it can't always be other people's fault.

NEVER our fault..Big Game,Askren,KD rarely if ever sends kids to us. We burn bridges.

Are we in play for Staples? Sounds like Heeg and Howard are definitely no go’s for us. Does Staples still have high ceiling to reach?

Was KD steering kids to Iowa before this incident?? Seems to me all he does is spoon feed studs to PSU, not sure that incident impacts us one way or another.

You may be right, but why not at least try to get along. Is it a coincidence that top club coaches--plural dont get along with TnT? We got 4th, and many think it's awesome since we wrestled well at nationals-- Last couple years, Nebraska has a better program than us--let that sink in. We are not gaining on PSU--falling farther behind. Ok State has passed us in a short period of time.

Are we getting closer to the team that won it in 2021 or farther away every day?

I dont see any changes that help put the University of Iowa team in a better position. Our coaches and staff have more drama than most teams combined.

And going to PSU has worked out so well for Nago😝
You should ask Nagao about that. He’s a huge PSU supporter and raves about his experience. He fit in very well there.

Unfortunately, he suffered a few injuries. It happens at PSU too.

Nagao would be a big supporter of Sanchez to PSU, but there are a lot more things to a commitment than just be close to Nagao. Could happen, but certainly not a lock.
