The Gulf South is quickly becoming a private school conference with no football. Wonder if Delta State and West Alabama will be looking elsewhere.

NAIA model is tough. Perception is that its lower than all NCAA, but the top of the NAIA is probably comparable to D2. They don't have some of the NCAA rules about international recruiting which makes some sports like men's soccer comparable to low D1. I expect William Carey is looking at this as well.

MUW is going to be looking for a new conference soon. the SLIAC experience isn't going to work. I wonder if they will consider returning to D2 and the Gulf South Conference.

Carey says they're not, but they sure are doing things that make it look like they are.

Kind of changing subjects. There is a 45 year old guy that works out at my gym who played football at USM for two years after high school. With the rules changed due to Covid he has two years left to play. He is currently on Milsaps Football team. He will be the oldest college football player. The lawyer who did the Netflix series about I think Last Chance U knows him and working out a deal with Netflix to follow him. Everyone is on board but the Coach. Still trying to work it out.

I didn't know they were ever D2 or in the GSC. The SLIAC always seemed like a weird fit. They are so geographically removed from the rest of the conference, makes sense being the St. Louis conference. There look to be two D3 conferences that already have Mississippi members (Southern Athletic Associaiton, and Collegiate Conference of the South). I wonder if they would take that road. My wife is a W alum, so I loosely follow their athletics, and I wonder if they can compete in D2. They seem to struggle in D3.

Yeah they were in the GSC back when the GSC was a powerhouse D2 conference. They didn't have football obvously but were competitive in women's basketball and volleyball. I think they won a national championship in women's basketball.

The problem is that the SAA and the CCS are all private schools and are unlikely to take a public school, even with limited athletics like MUW. Maryville is leaving the CCS for the SAA to replace Birmingham Southern, and the CCS will need to replace Maryville within 2 years. MUW will certainly apply but I just don't see the CCS schools voting them in. The CCS needs a Tennessee presence (MS, AL, GA and Kentucky footprint now). There are a handful of NAIA schools in Tennessee that may be looking to go D3 and the CCS is a perfect fit.

The SCAC schools seem to be happy but Colorado is a long trip - Centenary and Ozarks in Lousiana and Arkansas make sense for the CCS if they want to expend West, but I think they have to get a Tennessee school first.

I played mid to low D1. Some of those top, top NAIA teams can play with and occasionally beat top D1 teams. It's changed some with the way Grasse at Marshall and some others are recruiting older internationals, but historically top NAIA teams could put a scare in a top D1 team.

Harper Davis would 100% have let Netflix follow him

For those Memphis area sports fans who are disgusted by all the D1 professionalism taking over.....take in a football game at Rhodes College. Nice venue and kids who work their arse off without getting much other than some discounts on their tuition and books. Tuition is pretty pricey at Rhodes, and it is a college that's well known for its academics. Sort of like an Ivy League school down south. Talent level is about like a good junior college or big high school. Kids really play hard and you can easily hear that leather popping!!

Remember when we played Gardner-Webb? When I saw that name on our schedule, I thought it was a law firm.
Then, we played Elon once and I mistakenly thought it was Eloan. A home mortgage company.
