This team is going to walk through a regional and lose two close-ish games in a super.

Both games in the super we will be trailing early, hang around a while in the middle, then bullpen walk it away at the end.

This is the way.

Lots of "Redshirts" showing up around here these days .
Oh I’ve been here a long time. Not sure I said anything too controversial anyway. This team has dominated the bad-to-very good teams this year, but hasn’t been near the level of those “elite” 6-8 teams.

It reminds me of the year (2013 maybe?) when Mullen went 7-5 with all five losses against top 15 teams. It’s just a tough neighborhood with no room for the “pretty good”.

We have a lot of seniors, which translates to not being drafted as juniors, which translates to struggling against the elite teams who have a lot of future pros. I’m speaking of the position players; we have several young pitchers that will be drafted high when their time comes.

I've always hated losing more than I enjoy winning. It's a curse. It's made me a bad sport at times, a bad teammate at times, even a bad dad at times, etc. It's a twisted feeling of if you win well you met expectations but if you lose especially to someone who you should absolutely beat it's 1000 times worse. You can imagine how this translates over the years for me cheering for our beloved State. Enough of my personal flaws.

While I acknowledge that we've struggled with the elite competition I am ecstatic that we win a high majority of the games we are supposed to win. So yes, I hate losing to the elite teams but I believe Oak will get us there because not getting upset and consistently beating equal to lower teams requires mental preparation every game; an apex mentality that he has already been instilled in the program. Now, let's get hot this year and be that 17'n team and next year we just need some more killers to support a pitching staff that will be elite.

That is a safe bet. We are a team with more than our share of talent and that reliably delivers for us against overmatched opponents. Our problem is against equal talent we struggle to do the little things it takes to gain an edge. We do things like get picked off, can't hold runners, give up untimely freebies, passed balls that move runners up, get that hit with RISP. Fairly or unfairly, I blame that on the lingering influence from the previous coaching staff right now. Hopefully we can purge that next season.

Its amazing how bad we are in close games against really good competition. Here is how bad it is, in games decided by 2 runs or less against teams that finished in the top half of the SEC (essentially 1 thru 7 given we finished 8th) PLUS UCLA and USM (our 2 really good OOC opponents) we are 0-10. Against EVERYONE else we are 9-1 with the one loss being to Tennessee. We have won some games against elite competition but when we do they are never close. For example, we run ruled USM and would have run ruled A&M if Teel hadn't been put in CF. But if the game is competitive we haven't been able to win one all year.

Exactly. This years team is one cojone short of being elite.

That’s a crazy stat. And one that does give me some hope. you have to think it will eventually turn around some.

Well, we are playing the soon to be CWS Champions.....so there's that.
True, but with a solid middle reliever and a true closer we’d be right there with them. It’s been a pretty recognizable pattern this year, going all the way back to the UCLA weekend.

ive been saying this all year. change has to be made either in our approach to recruiting pitchers or preferably a change in our ptiching coach.... go get a legit closer and two legit aces

We have a very good team. Hitting... spotty pitching.

Georgia has a really good team. Pitching and hitting. It does not hurt that the umpiring crew wears Georgia underwear...

Maybe next season we won't run into an Omaha-worthy team on our way to Omaha.

I still have not figured out why we are bumping our chest with two strikes instead of our head?

Georgias lineup of hitters is just brutal. Not a good matchup if you are short on pitching. I don’t see anybody beating Georgia.

Mac and Tico are both potential 1st round draft picks in '27.

I know they've struggled this weekend, but come on.

You can't be so obvious with the trolling.
Bauer and Miller need to take major steps this offseason, and McP needs to get completely well. If they can find some quality portal middle relief, and a knock down closer, and the other young talent develops, we'll have a much more serviceable staff next year. I just don't trust Parker to develop them.

If Georgia advances it will be interesting to see how they play in a huge ballpark where the wind blows more in than out. Our title team with Bednar and Sims was built perfectly for that park.

I think they will be just fine. I bet they still hit balls in Omaha and honestly they do just fine barreling balls up for base hits. But mainly, they just don’t get rattled. We had those guys on the ropes several times the past 2 days and they never flinched. Hell of a team, I’ll be shocked if they don’t win it.
