Any chance Hampton moves to 2016 and redshirts?

No idea is that is even a possibility but not sure why more kids don’t do that. We have the precedent for redshirting players now. Would he develop more at the high school level or college level over the next year I wonder?

I mean, in the current NCAA guys who played in 2016 can play in 2027. I don’t see why guys in 2027 couldn’t play in 2016. We may have just won the title.

All jokes aside I see the logic in reclassifying and getting NIL for a year instead of beating up on HS kids. If he’s already basically saying “I want to be in the NBA draft in 2028” why not come on to KY, get paid, practice against great players and see where the chips fall.

Unless he wants to play with his cousin next year.

That's what Im thinking also. What is the downside of coming to UK this year? Get more NIL money, get elite facilities to practice and potentially be able to help the team win games if needed.

Hampton is older than current 2026 recruits like Stokes and Holt. He would be re-classifying BACK into his original class if he did make the move.

He will be 20 when the season starts in 27/28.
He’s definitely old enough to be in college this year. To my understanding though he turned 18 in May, which would make him 19 for his freshman year at UK.

He would be eligible to be in the 2027 draft just like Sharpe.

True, but my thinking is if he shows enough growth to get drafted probably means we had a great season. I don’t think he could sit like Sharpe and stay lottery but maybe I’m wrong about that.

After Shaedon Sharpe, I'll pass on the reclass followed by redshirt thing, especially for guys projected to be lottery picks.
I think there's a lot to that. An adult could maximize that time for training. A 16-17 year old could do the same in theory, but it's going to be a hell of a lot easier for them to get distracted. School is important in more ways than one.

100% agree....

He's physically not going to help UK in 2026, we have Milanovich on the wing...and Wilkins as SG.

Let him get ready and stronger for 2027 and play that year as he moves on with his NBA life.

Hampton is already 18. He is probably a top 15 prospect. Duke is returning Dame Sarr and has John Blackwell coming in so why would Scheyer take in Bryson Howard? It's the same situation really.

Plus, Momcilovic could play PF just as easily.

If Kam Williams, N'Diaye, McBride, Hawthorne, and Wilkins are good enough to play over Hampton, that is a very good thing.
