Kevin Garnett: "Jamal Mashburn is probably one of the most underrated players in our history."

Thats for Damn sure. The Mavs teams he played on were fun to watch but poorly constructed in regards to winning a title. He was awesome at UK and the NBA.

Good point about the roster construction. I always thought the Mavs should have dealt Jimmy Jackson once they drafted Mashburn. They were both volume scorers. Mavs should have traded Jackson for a future pick and taken someone like Ray Allen in a later draft, even if they had to package a few other picks.

Can you imagine, Kidd, Allen, and Mashburn together? That would have been a coherent 1-2-3.

Stronger than an ox and could bring it up and shoot from outside.

More critically, that dude moved like a panther, in a way I’ve never seen any other basketball player do at any level. Cannot imagine what he would have been like if he’d actually had a chance to reach his ceiling.

Man you are preaching to the choir bud. Living in East Texas, UK will always be my favorite team, but I never miss a Mavs game either. To have Kidd and Mashburn and try and run half court offense watching Jim Jackson dribble down the clock to jack it up wore me out. And Jackson was really good, just not a good fit.
The Mavs are like pasting a kick me sign on your back when watching hoops. Dirk got us a title, but watching this years Finals and knowing we had a young Brunson and super young Luka, refused to lock up Brunson when he wanted a team friendly deal and then traded him and then traded Luka for a bag of beans is madness. Keep Brunson and Luka togetger and build around them and you wil multiple Championships. People wonder how I can be patient with Pope after one bad year. I guess it comes from being a Mavs fan as well where you had better learn a lot of patience

How stupid can you be to think he's underrated?
Not very.

I'm more inclined to think it is foolish to not respect what a force he was.

Mash is still one of the greatest offensive threats I have ever seen in college and was a load in the NBA too until the injuries stacked up too much even with the chemistry issues in Dallas.

Jamal was pure beast. No one in college could do anything about him. Did what he wanted to whomever he wanted. Only thing that slowed him down was four phantom fouls in a final four game that he absolutely owned until the refs decided he needed to sit.

One of the biggest ******** moments all time for me was watching Calbert Cheaney win both the Wooden and Naismith Awards in 1993. Mash was far superior in every way.

Mashburn is the best all around player I’ve ever seen in a Kentucky uniform, and I’ve seen a bunch of them.
I believe the same. I will take a full mash against a full AD, Dan issel, etc. he was the epitome of the positionless player. Mash was a beast who could play with finesse.

There was a time Mash was a top 5 NBA player IMO.
I think that’s probably a stretch. Best he ever made was a third team All-NBA in 2003 season. Injuries prevented him from being what he could have been. Had the talent to be top five and it sucks that we didn’t get to see it.

This might be the greatest display of basketball I’ve ever seen. 34-8 with 10:23 in the first half.

1993 is still my all-time second favorite season behind the 1996 season.

That 1993 team brought back the hope that Kentucky would be elite again. Still can't understand the horrible call on Mashburn to give him his 4th personal. That set up the OT foul-out that took UK's momentum away against Michigan.

And an under appreciated part of that game was when Dale Brown messed his shoulder up diving for a loose ball into the scorer’s table. One of the most heartbreaking losses of my fandom.

tend to find myself coming back to this conclusion as well. AD was superlative in a lot of respects and in an odd way has totally overshadowed Michael Kidd Gilchrist, who I thought was one of the very best college players I’ve ever seen. The fact they were both on the same team is why Cal has a title.

I think all around, Mashburn was the best “basketball player” I’ve seen at UK.

Mkg isn't close to any of those guys listed . He was a great player but he was basically an undersized power forward that scored inside the paint only. Freak athleticism though

thank you for proving my point exactly. MKG was the best transition starter/finisher I’ve seen at Kentucky. He consistently made winning plays on both ends of the court and was versatile enough to play both forward spots. We don’t win it all in 2012 without him and Mashburn never once had a teammate of his caliber.

And off the court he's an absolute gentleman and great businessman. A legendary person in my opinion around these parts.
Thanks Jamal
