My dad had it - it was solid - but maybe a bit overpriced IMO. I feel like you pay a premium for the gimmick/marketing.
That is a fair rating for Jim Beam. It is non-offesnive, but also not really good?
It does get you inebrieated!
I like it exactly 1.5 hrs after a 50mg goodie. I don't care that it's average. My favorite budget is Evan Williams Bonded.
Jim Beam Rye in the green bottle used to be my favorite Beam. Now any Beam that I am not drinking is.
What's a better booze...Jim Beam or Jack Daniels??

Jack Daniels - the smell AND taste - makes me feel nauseous instantly. The burnt oak flavor apparently some people love is very off-putting to me.
It's quite popular. I always felt like it smells and tastes like a campfire someone pissed on.
Beam Suntory is my favorite distillery. My bourbon cabinet is filled with their products. I do have a single bottle of Jim Beam for guests who don't drink it neat and want a mixer.
I like Jack more than I like Jim.
With that said, I don't really buy Jack. My dad is a big fan of it though. He recently got a bottle of the Sinatra Select, and I am excited to give that a try the next time I go visit.
I'm a high rye, high proof bourbon guy. There may be 2-3 bottles in my cabinet under 90 proof and 10-15 over 120. Just picked up a bottle of E.H. Taylor Barrel Proof a couple of weeks ago. Got it for $199.
In a bottle of Coke so it's hidden when one is boozing secretly in high school...
A few weeks ago I picked up a bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye. It's pretty damn good for the price. I'm getting more and more into ryes.
I always have some Whistle Pig in my cabinet. Good medium priced ryes I enjoy are Knob Creek (select if you can find it 115 proof) and New Riff.
As noted earlier, “stay away from Tennessee - ain’t nuthin good come outta Tennessee”.
So a buddy invited me over to watch first game of cup finals tonight. All this talk led me to pick this up on the way home to bring. Going to try the single malt bourbon cask finish.

I had some Maker's barrel proof a couple weeks ago that was really good. I’ve been bouncing between an Eagle Rare and Taylor small batch I got last summer while driving through Kentucky at the BT gift shop. I was also gifted a Stagg for Christmas that's really good, just not quite as tasty as the Maker's for double the price.
I like to give Jefferson's Ocean to people who are new to drinking good bourbon straight.This one?

Jack Daniel's is pretty terrible. If only Jack Daniel's and Jim Beam are available, then I would either stick with water or fill a pint glass with ice, soda, and a shot of the Jim Beam.
I probably drink as much rye as I do bourbon these days. My go-tos are High West Double Rye, Redwood Empire Emerald Giant, and Lost Republic Rye. All are in the $30 range, and all are good for sipping or mixing.
I'm a Four Roses guy, pretty much only because it was the free shot my bartender friends would give me for a few years. It grew on me.
Now the free shot is Tullamore Dew, which I gladly accept, but never buy for home.
My realtor friend gave me a bottle of Booker's uncut and unfiltered, haven't tried it yet, but it by the nature of being more than $50 is more than I've spent on bourbon.

Four Roses is super solid. And the small batch is pretty stellar.

Best bottom-shelf bottle these days is Benchmark Full Proof.
The limited release work by JD the past few years is incredible stuff. The Coy Hill I have is 142 proof and will give you goosebumps like some years’ BTAC bottles. JD 12- and 14-year are also great.
Old Forester barrel-proof picks are outstanding, as you said. Cyclone Liquor in Ames had one a few years back that I wish I had a case of. Intense banana candy nose and full of flavor. I also really enjoy the OF 1924, which I grabbed another of in Omaha not long ago.
The regulars I go to at home are Knob Creek 12, Weller Antique, and J. Henry & Sons.
Very overpriced and a marketing gimmick. The other label I can’t stand and think is grossly overpriced is anything that Whistlepig produces.
I agree. Like it’s fine, I drink it when offered, but agree it’s overpriced
